In my opinion this was the best game at Subi this year.
We really looked like we wanted to win.

The team finally showed some real passion and desire to win. Overall a great game. Best tackling game in a long time, i really can't express how i think it was a good game

I agree. some of the best tackling i have ever seen. It wasn't just one or two players tackling well, the whole team tackled well.
however melbourne have now lost 4 in a row, Carlton our last and the west bulldogs are below us on the ladder.

They showed desperation and didnt lie down. Tacking was excellent, not just the first, the second and third efforts. Putting the body on the line was impressive and no backing away from the argy bargy from Phil "the windmill" Read.

This is what Freo wants, desperation, passion and the desire to win above ones own well being and performance!

Well done Des, continue like that and you'll get a fan!!

Well done Belly, a captains effort, Pav (please sign him now!) and well done Maggots, kept me almost quiet for once!!

I am not getting ahead of myself.
I was strictly speaking about just this game, and how i thought this was the best game this year, and i mean the context of the game. It was a hard tough close fought game. I still Don't think we will make the 8, and i still don't agree with a lot CC does but today the players showed some real passion and hunger.

In a way it was like we had 22 Troy cooks, but with better skills

Not the best game but it would be up there.

We are starting to gel a bit and it was encouraging to here Schamm when interviewed not talking beyond the Pies next week.

Well done on the win.
I thought the umpiring was fine. Don't look at the free kick count as it doesn't take into account the dirtiness of some of melbournes players.

The free kck count was heavily weighted in Freo's favour but I thought overall it wasn't too bad, certainly didn't change the course of the game. The deliberate out of bounds was a shocker though.

Well, I didn't notice too many bad umpiring decisions, what I did notice was one teams hunger for the ball, and the other team giving away away kicks by being second to the contest many times.

Usually in badly umpired games there are some glaring, obvious bad frees or non-frees that may affect the outcome. If you think there were any of these today, then please feel free to point out them out right here.

A lot of soft free kicks were paid at the Subiaco end to both teams. I'm not sure if they were all by the same umpire, but they all seemed to be at the 3 tier stand end.

I thought most of Freo's frees were there, it's just that it wasn't paid the other way. I mean, come on, 6 frees in 3 quarters, and in wet conditions? that's just not right.

Anyway, rant over. Enjoy September. :(

i thought we got a couple luck decisions. on top of that we also picked up good free kicks( eg resulted in goals), Mcpharlin in the goal square comes to mind.
To sum up we had a got the best of the umpiring today. But really it is the first time this season that we have had the umpires on our side.

Well i just finished watching the replay on Fox. It was a good game to watch on Tv, but unless you where actually at the game you couldnt feel the intensity from us. Without a doubt, even with the rain it was the best game iv'e been to this year. From a TV point of view, the freo vs dees game earlier in the year was better.

It just proves you get a different perspective going to the game

Agreed.

At Subi, I sit on the "outer" side, so I get the reverse view of the game to what is seen on tele. I thus actually get to see the game from both angles, outer (live) & commentary (tv replay) angles.

We seemed to get a lot of high tackle decisions in our favour. Not sure if that's a common Melbourne thing, but by gee you guys would want to work on your tackling, it was atrocious.
I thought we got a couple of soft frees in front of goal, but I didn't think the umpiring was bad. Probably in part because we get screwed just about every week, to end up on the right side of the free kick ledger for once was a nice change. :D

I think we deserved most our frees.
But i think melbourne missed out on 6-10 pushes in the back, but i don't think it had a huge impact to be honest
