A Tiger fan posted that the tiger/crows game was a great game despite losing.

It made me think of the North/Hawthorn Final at waverley in 1994, which North won after extra time. Best for Hawthorn was J Platten and best for North on W Carey.

Does anyone have any similar favourites ? Obviously Essendon fans won't be interested in losing at the moment.

1989 Grand Final still sits in my memory as a game we were proud to be in, despite the result.

Others include 1993 Geelong v Essendon in front of 77,000 when Ablett kicked 14 and Salmon kicked 10. That was pretty special despite the result.

In 1995, Geelong played Carlton at Optus Oval in about round 12. Geelong lost the game by 3 points, but I remember thinking after the game that as soon as we get Carlton on a reasonably sized ground we could beat them. As History shows, it just made the result 10 goals bigger.

Earlier this year when Geelong played North at Boglands (Using a Mark Thompson phrase to describe the conditions yesterday!!!) Geelong lost by 5 points when Bizzell's Barrell missed the goals by inches. I thought at the time, that this was the loss we needed as it broke the streak of last year, winning the first 5 and losing the last 9 - Strange logic, I know. We were really proud of the way they played that night.

North vs Brisbane Lions, Round 14 last year at the MCG is the best game I've seen where my team has lost. As a game I thought it had it all, speed, skill, hardness and desperation from both sides. There were 11 lead changes in the last quarter. We lost by 2 points, after Anthony Stevens bombed a long goal 20 seconds before the final siren. Byron Pickett's desperate lunge to just touch the ball through for a point, instead of a Lions goal was also telling, but typical of the desperation of both teams.

Crows loss to Essendon 1993 Prelim. Crows up by 7 goals 10 min into 3rd quarte. Enter Michael Long.

We lost but the exhibition Longy put on that day was the best individual performance I have ever seen & a privelidge to watch. Close 2nd would be Ablett's 1989 GF.

Pess, you don't like us very much do you? Well, this should warm your heart a bit. The "best" loss I've seen us involved in was the '84 second semi against the Hawks. Great game, hard, close all day after the initial burst by Hawthorn, and a match that wasn't decided until the final seconds of play.

A game that I remember is Melbourne's final game in 1996 against Hawthorn when the merger debate was taking place. Despite going down by a point, I was really proud of the boys and that it was a fairly good way to end if we were to merge.

How can the 93 prelim final be a game you are proud of?

7 goals up in the 3rd quarter & we lost.

Michael Long or not we CHOKED!

Adelaide really did'nt deserve to be there. I mean we finished 6th, beat Hawthorn, lost to Carlton & then played off in a prelim? And people complain about the McIntire final 8 system!

The players heads got so big from finishing 3rd (thats a 1 team town for you) it ruined us for the next 3 years.

I don't think I have ever been proud of a loss but if I'm pushed then Adelaide v Collingwood at Vic Park 1997. We lost by a point. That was less traumatic than most.

Dave,
You should take it as a compliment that I'm having digs at essendon. as you are miles ahead at the moment.

If you do pull off the unbeaten season plus Premiership plus financial stability just watch the other clubs coma and ask for advice (oops Hawthorn's been out to windy hill already)

Best game we lost? Too many losses to choose from.

I would have to say our 1991 Elimination Final vs Geelong (3rd vs 4th: still annoys me today)

Geelong beat us by 7 points, from memory Brownless and Lockett both kicked 9 goals.

Great game!

Drakey?????

Never said I was proud of the loss. Look at the thread topic. Best game your team lost. Not Proudest loss by your team.

I think all Crows supporters would agree that had we won that game and then maybe even the GF that the system was at fault.

What a bloody depressing post Pess

I go away for a week and come back to this!

Still I guess I do remember a game way back in the early eighties when home ground advantages actually meant something. A shocker of a day out at Vic Park, the Collingwood fans screaming and getting every free under the sun and our boys not getting a thing. I think we went down by abour 3 goal in the end, but with virtually no support at all, the rabble they had to face and I think from memory quite a few seniors were out (I think I was only 14/15) I felt proud of them anyway. Also it was my first time at Vic Park, finally I had the courage to go
