I have about 10 professional quality magnificent shots per game. The rest are crap. The only things I keep track of are the beers in the cooler and what hole we're on so I'll know when we're finished. If the beers get to zero, or the hole gets to 18 I'm done - whichever comes first makes little difference.

Played in the vic open many long years ago. Best over 18 was 67.
Haven't played for a lot of years.

I can just break 100 but I don't get to play much...need to work on my driving and iron play.

Bomberboy/King Henry is a top golfer, used to go to a golf academy or something and has played in numerous tournaments...he used to take it all pretty seriously, then I think he joined the navy  :p

Thats as good as it gets, I'm afraid

I could make the same claim.

What's my handicap? How about the fact that I plan the damn game?

Mark Twain was right... golf is a good walk spoiled by the pursuit of a little white ball.

And yes, "golf" is just another four-letter word...

But having said that, if there's ever a BigFooty golf tournament, count me in, for the fun of the get-together.

Cheers,
William

That's your word against ours, Rohan-- but can you keep your drives straight? Because that might be the only thing keeping you from the PGA Tour. ;)

Tiger Woods can drive 250 meters/300 yards off the tee without any problem. And in all honesty, with all the improved technology in the construction of the latest equipment, some hackers with reasonable levels of coordination and technique can pound the ball that far down the fairway nowadays.

Not such a big deal. :D

Depends on how accurate you reckon my counting is as to whether or not I can play.

Nothing wrong with that, Slax.

Golf stories are like fishing stories... tales of long drives and great shots are a bit like how big of a catch you have from a day on the river.

So if you (or anyone else, for that matter) have any golf stories of note, please regale us. :)

Cheers,
William

I played with a guy last week who was unbelievably long.

The 18th is 411 metres, I hit mine 261 metres (I know this cos I'm smack bang on 150m out). No joke this bloke was 90 metres in front of me.

Ok so it was downwind you say, the previous hole into the wind he's got home in 2 on a 480m par 5 in to the wind. Dead set unbelievable. I went driver, 5 wood, 7 iron.

The week prior I played with a pro, a 4 and a 5, but this bloke left them for dead, couldn't putt though.

Im not in contention but i can hold my own. Have never worked out my handicap but i generally end up with 22-25 over on a good day and 30-35 over on a bad day. Over the last 12 months id say ive improved about 7-8 strokes a round. Ive beaten my dad a couple of times and he plays off 13 or 14.

I have a few deficincies in my game. I cant use woods. I'll maybe hit...3 out of 10 drives straight. The others generally go quite far but its useless if you are three fairways across :D
So when i play i only ever use Irons off the tee. I can still get a fair distance and they still go straight. Im good off the fairway and out of the rough. Im absolutely useless out of a bunker tho.
Im a very good putter, can judge distance and can read the green very well. My chipping is ok, but could improve.

The thing that kills my round is im prone to the scrubber shot every few holes. Like ill get in a good position for a birdie or par then ill do a chip shot that either goes about 3 feet in front of me or 15 metres past the hole - then ill three putt and end up with a 7 or 8! Or ill magically do a shot of the fairway that ends up 40 metres sideways from where it should be!

Played in a golf league on saturdays this year (which meant i had to miss a lot of SANFL games tho :( ) and did ok. I think i ended up winning 6 out of 18 games. Not bad considering most of the opposition had either been playing for 25-30 years (compared to my 3-4) and played off a single figure handicap.

I'd like to get better, but i hate playing golf by myself so i only ever play when one of my mates can or occasionally with my dad.

I'm rubbish - lucky to break 100. Still enjoy it though, live not far from Ivanhoe so try and get down with a few mates once a week.

Can drive it over 220 if it's a good one.

I have a couple of mates under 3, when you get to that stage it goes into decimals! (ie, one is off 2.7)

I'm not the best golfer out there, Have a hit every now and then, my drive is great when I get onto it.
Unfortunately when I do play great at one aspect of my game another aspect lets me down, just wish I could get them all to work at once.

I've been playing for 17 years, began at the age of eight. My older brother is a club professional back home and plays to scratch.

At the moment I probably play off closer to 6 or 7; I haven't played in several weeks. Anybody here looking for a game, I'm open for one. At one point last year I was down to 3.8, but I was playing just about every single day then, on the same course.

I average about 240-250 metres off the tee, and I'm pretty straight; I can work the ball both ways. Occasionally I can hit one almost 300 metres. Driving tends to be one of my strengths, although I can really hit it all over the place on an off day. The other main strength is probably my irons, particulary mid to short (6-8); I have had two aces and have been centimetres away from countless others.

My short game isn't good, and is really the one thing keeping me from ever becoming a scratch player. I can hit the ball inside 10 feet all day and then miss the putts, and I'll make one or two really stupid bogeys in a round by chipping poorly.

Usually I go to either Keilor or to Riverside in Ascot Vale. There aren't enough places to play on this side of town. My best score this year was a 72 at Keilor, on my wedding day. ;) I've shot 71 once, 72 three times and a bunch of 73s. I've also shot a 33 (-3) on a nine-hole course.

I played Commonwealth this past summer, on a cold wet day, and it absolutely ate my lunch. What an impossible golf course.
