Thought i'd starrt a thread to dissect the top rap groups in the industry. I've included Mainstream, Semi-mainstream and Undeground groups in the discussion. the criteria i've used is how well the members have done solo, the quality of the beats and lyrics, general impact on the rap industry and if the group has a distinctive style different to other groups.
These would be my top 12 groups
1) Wu Tang Clan
2) N.W.A
3) Jedi Mind Tricks/Army of the Pharoahs
4) Bone Thugs n' Harmony
5) Mobb Deep
6) Blackstar
6) Tied for 6th with Cypress Hill
8) Outkast
9) The Roots
10) Three 6 Mafia
11) Gang Starr
12) Atmosphere
Well, IMO these are the top 12 rap groups in the world when using my aforementioned criteria. Wu Tang and NWA were very hard to seperate as they both had a huge impace on the rap industry in how music was produced among other things. I put JMT in third due to their quality lyrics and beats best group in that category in this list IMO. BTNH IMO are very underated, Krayzie Bone is a class MC and they have some very good songs, very dystinctive style and some of the MC's have done alright in solo projects. Mobb Depp are high due to IMO having some great beats, e.g. Shook Ones Part II.
What do you guys reckon have I got it right? Would you add/take away some of these groups from the top 12?
