Port v Brisbane played a couple of absolute belters over their time at the peak rivalry late 90’s and early 2000’s

Their first 3 games were 2 draws and a 2 pt thriller. After that there was the 2004 Grand Final of course, the late 2002 game in Adelaide was outstanding, the round 1 2005 game had a sensational Brisbane comeback.

However the 2003 game in Brisbane was right up there with the best ever.

Top of the table clash, at the Gabbatoir. Ferocious at the contest, just full on attacking football with ball in hand, with punishing bumps and tackles.
Sheer midfield class from Voss and James. Wonderful goals from Akermanis and Carr. Pickett running bounces and goaling from 50, Keating massive pack marks.
Josh Carr played a belter kicking 3 maybe 4. Be some good memories for him coming back today as coach (in-waiting).

Round 6, May 6, 1989, Hawks Cats was a crazy and excellent game, full on attack, some shrewd positional changes. A worthy aperitif to the 1989 GF.

The comebacks and after the siren games stick out particularly.

1998 vs the Bulldogs at the WACA. Strange game where they kicked like 8 to 1 or 0 in the first quarter, while the score was a mirror image in the second. Ended up a close game from memory.

2006 at the Cattery down by 54, our greatest comeback. Remember an interview, forgot who, Embley maybe, saying the players had the belief they could come back even when 54 down, and they played like they believed they could. Did similar against Carlton the following week. Would've been amazing to have been at the ground.

The Nic Nat vs GWS game and Port 2018 game. After the drama of the Gaff hit on Brayshaw, it was good to follow up our 2017 EF win with Shuey kicking a goal start the siren to win (imo the greatest elimination final ever), with the same at Adelaide Oval, with McGovern kicking after the siren to win. Deja vu.

Tom Hawkins match. Comebacks tend to hide weakness, which is why I'm not on the bandwagon for the 2001 Essendon v North game (shit defence throughout) but this game was an exception. No one would have been good enough to handle that Cats first quarter, but it took an exceptional team, proving their cred which had been building but not decided before this game, to get it even again...and then the drama to finish. The best ever match had two of the best ever teams playing their best ever footy, or close enough. Cats winning streak was in double figures by this point, and I'd lost count of the number of times I'd swear at the tv after yet another Hawks defeat at the hands of a Cats champ last minute magic moment, but I just shook my head at the end of this one and laughed like a thwarted supervillain...

Carlton vs St Kilda, round 20 in 1989.

Sticks Kernaghan kicked 10 goals. Nicky Winmar kicked 8 goals. Adrian Gleeson had 40 touches and 3 goals. A young Robert Harvey had 36 touches and 4 goals (and no Brownlow votes!)

Carlton came back from 14 behind at the last change to win by 1pt - final score was 133-132 in a game that mathematically kept Carlton in finals contention.

Its a bit of a forgotten game because it wasn't even on the Saturday replay that night so no one saw it if they weren't there. Winmar was incredible at his best though.

Non Adelaide games.

-Of any game I have watched on TV. That 2009 Anzac day game was freaking incredible. Bombers stole it in the wet with 3 late goals.
-Tom Hawkins winning goal from 50m out after siren vs Hawthorn, it started right but it went left.

Adelaide games

-Petrenko winning goal vs North in 2013. Sadly it did not save our season in the end.
-Dawson winning goal in the showdown a few years ago.
-McLeod insane winning goal over Colligwood in 2005, probably his greatest goal, left foot kick from the boundry outside 50m.
