Best individual performance ever?

Can't remember when exactly but I recall Tony Lockett booting a bag against Sydney at the SCG to drag the Saints over the line, after being 4 or 5 goals down into time-on of the last qtr.

Seconded; all we had to do that day was outscore Ablett...:p

Often overlooked though, is the fact the Big Fish kicked 10.6 in just over 3 quarters.

IIRC, he tightened up in the hammy late in the 3rd. Very early in the last, he led out, marked & pulled his hammy this time. Went back, kicked his tenth, then went off...

A genuine star, the Big Fish!!

Didn't Alessio take over at full forward in the last quarter and kick 3 or 4 goals?

That game was amazing though. I remember at one stage we had two loose players on the half forward flank, yet we'd still kick it to Ablett with 3 opponents on him, and he'd usually win the contest and have a kick at goal. I think he ended up with 25 kicks and about 13 marks that day - freakish stats for a full forward.

There was this game Carey played, I think in 1996, against Melbourne on a Friday night at the MCG.

He had about 4 different opponents and treated every one of them with complete contempt, kicked 11 goals, racked up possessions, took a ridiculous amount of marks - I remember one of them was a one-hander as Neitz dragged him to ground, and generally just embarrassed Melbourne in every way.

Brian Lake's game against Geelong in the Preliminary Final this year is the best game I have ever seen from a defender.

I have loved Franklin from day dot and I have watched alot of football, 36 years a member etc blah blah blah......This boy has kicked 9 against us twice !!! so i`ll throw up either one of those performances . It used to be S.Madden then W.Carey but if Buddy can keep his head , and you all know what I mean, but if he can keep his 3kz on his shoulders he will be the best ever.
A best and fairest in a premiership year shows how good he is.

Came here to post this one - Lockett singlehandedly dragged the Saints over the line from 50 points down in 1994, smashing Peter Caven's face in on the way.
Finished with 11 goals, but still didn't manage the 3 Brownlow votes

Not sure, but one thing I remember from this game was it was a pretty grey, damp, greasy Melbourne day. To have 2 blokes kick bags of 14 & 10 was amazing...

It also proved Hirdy was no good as a defender!!!:D

Agreed, Franklin hasnt put in a all-time memorable performace quite yet, but to say that it is easier for forwards today is garbage, when infact it is harder. Put away the crack pipe.;)
I disagree.

His 9 goals against the Bombers was an awesome display, one of the best I've seen in modern times.

His 7 goals against the Crows in his first final as well, very memorable performance.

People seem to like the romantic idea of past players being some sort of legends, and modern players don't stack up.

Some of Buddy's performances already have been every bit as impressive.

Aker - in the wet at the Gabba v Geelong 4 or 5 years ago. 30+ quality touches, 5 goals - 2 of which were so f#*king good even Aker was surprised by how good he was. Was simply an outstanding individual game. Close to perfect.

He had 35 touches, kicked 5.2 and had 9 tackles in that game too. The week after that he had 27 touches, kicked 5 straight and 8 tackles.

Not a bad fortnight.

I'll be completely biased here.

Peter Daicos
Round 20 1991 vs Brisbane Bears
17 kicks, 7 marks, 2 handballs. 13 goals 1 behind. I can remember he had at least 2 assists also.
for 15 of your 19 touches to result in goals is remarkable.

Yeah, that was a brilliant performance. Great game, and the greatest comeback I have ever seen. 47 points down with eleven minutes to go. Lockett's shirtfront on Caven resulted in a nine-week suspension, and I'll never forget the disrespect he showed to the Sydney fans that afternoon in the final quarter.

Five Richmond players smashed the Bulldogs in 2003.

Kane Johnson had 29 touches, kicked two goals and had an incredible fourteen inside fifties.

Richo had 25 touches, 17 marks and two goals playing on the wing.

Ben Holland kicked six goals straight (that's incredible for him).

Ottens had 23 touches, nine marks, 37 hitouts and five tackles.

While first gamer Marty McGrath had a one-game wonder of a debut with five goals.

I can't ever remember five players worthy of three votes like that.

Judd has never got 40+ posessions.

But this is how legends are formed.

Supporters pick good players from their team and talk them up until somewhere
down the myth, someone remembers that particular player having a 100 possies and kicking 1000 goals. WC fans are by far the worst supporters in doing this. When they were at their peak, Judd was the best, when it wasn't Judd it was Cousins, when it wasn't Cousins it was Kerr and Cox is another player they can't talk up enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway one of the best performances I've seen was Josh Francou against Geelong, 02' I think it was. They had just lost to Brisbane the week before but in the next game the Cats had no answer for a rampant Francou. :thumbsu:

I know your an Essendon supporter mate..

But never put S.Madden's name in the same sentence as W.Carey like that

Lloyd's 13.4 against Sydney, Rd 3 1999 was much better, probably the best goal-scoring effort in the last 10 years, and he achieved it against a stronger side; one that finished in the eight.

Franklin's a freak, but I've yet to see a performance worthy of "Best Individual Performance Ever", including his efforts when he plays the Bombers.

If you read the context of my post, it was in response to another, and then I said "one of the best performances I've seen in modern times"

Meaning the last 10 years.

I've seen plenty of better ones, but its hard to compare the 90s to the present because the game is so different, and with zoning its pretty hard for a forward to kick over 10 goals.

That's crap.... A defender can't even touch a forward these days without a free kick given against him.

In the 90's forwards got no protection from the umpires, now these days because forwards haven't been kicking 100+ goals, the rules commitee are giving them an arm ride.

agreed.... do you SOS would be an all time great fullback if he was playing under the current rules?

1999 was 9 years ago...

A Carey performances that I was fortunate enough to see most of (friend was a member of the MCG and got us in for the 2nd half) was Round 10 1995.

Essendon would put on a charge but it was Carey that North went to time and again and he kept producing. At one stage Sheedy tried throwing Hird onto him but that had little effect. Carey ended up with 7 and really showed that he could dominate a game despite being double and triple teamed in contests.

i remeber that game.. he kicked a silly one from 40 out whilst being slung backwards over the boundary by johhny gastev... Somehow he got boot to ball, and it curved through top of post hight...

he was gracious enough to apologise to gastev ;-)

Was definetly up there
