Aker also did it in that Geelong game with the two goals from the boundary in 2005.
Peter Knights in 1976, broke his collarbone in round 14 that ruled him out for 7 matches. Ultimately losing the Brownlow medal to Graham Moss by 48 to 45 votes (effectively polling from just 14 games).

the brilliance and unstoppable force that was Kelvin Templeton.He beat everyone and anyone as he coasted to winning the Brownlow and booting

Tony Lockett's 1989 season or was it 1990 ? when he had 78 goals by round 12.
As a neutral i was looking fwd to seeing him break the 150 mark and that season he was on track,he had 2 yrs wrecked by an ankle injury

remember seeing this herculian wingman in'93 as a neutral at princess park one afternoon and turned around to a mate post match and said
that in a few years time nobody will able to stop that bloke,think it was carlton v fitzroy,Silvagni bagged about 8 iirc

For me the two great standout players post year 2000 are Gary Ablett jnr and Buddy Franklin. They were/are above a level from everyone else.
After that then it's perhaps Dusty, Judd and Fyfe. imo.

Yep, if you weren't roving in those days, you were resting in the forward pocket. You only came off the ground if you were injured or spudding it up terribly, think the sub era recently.

Greg Williams in only his 2nd season in 1985 and playing career games 13 to 34 amassed 675 touches at 30.68 per game, including 5 games of 40 plus (pretty much unheard of in those days) and won Geelong's b&f, was named the league MVP and was equal 4th in the Brownlow. In that 1985 season he had over 10% of all Geelong possessions that year on his own.
In a further 218 games over 12 seasons, he would only ever beat that season average once, in 1990 he averaged 31.73 per game from only 11 games.

and too good,Cloke RU in Brownlow that year iirc

115 goals as a smaller type forward, through wizardy mainly.
Excellent finals series.
He (and Crosswell) turned the GF from 44 point HT defecit. Hopkins gets the credit though. Played up the ground often linking defence and attack.
Was involved in a classic FF shootout with McKenna in the 70 Semi, also a belter of a game which though Blues lost, helped them make GF plans.
Can't think of another consistently spectacular year as that.

Best half a season I've seen was Fyfe in 2015. Freo start 12-1 through R14 (bye in R12) and Fyfe amasses 29 Brownlow votes in the 13 games.
Then Sammy Mitchell takes him out off the ball, leaving him to miss five of the remaining nine games, limp through the other four, only pick up 2 more votes and then finish the Prelim with a broken leg (in the same place he'd been hit earlier in the year).
But for those 14 rounds he reached a level that Dusty and Danger could only dream of - and he has only reached that level sporadically since (maybe close in R6-11 in 2019).
For the record, Danger took 21 rounds to overtake the 29 votes Fyfe had after R14 and Dusty took 19 rounds to pass 29 votes. Or to put it another way, after 14 rounds Fyfe was on track to amass 45 votes before being sniped off the ball.

What amazes me these days is that the torp is rarely used. What players don't have time to practice?
Most could do it, and so many games goals were kicked using it. Not necessarily on the run like Quinlan could, but taking a shot when it is just outside your range, torp it.
My son could do it when he was 14, then they stop because they are not encouraged to do it any more.
