Hi guys, just moved out of home and landed a home based job so having to set up an internet connection. I know that I have ADSL2+ available in my area and im less than 1km from my local phone exchange. Just wanting to get some opinions good and bad on ISP's - optus, iinet, dodo, primus, TPG etc

cheers

Thanks, never heard of Internode. By best you mean speed, connectivity?
Also, another noob question, do all ISP's run through the same phone exchange?

I signed up with iinet ADSL2 a month ago and am very happy with them.
Am a reasonable distance from the exchange but am still getting 14mbps.

Phone lines $30 a month, and 200gb plans $50 a month so total is 80 a month.

Free setup and a free Boblite modem/wireless router worth $99.

Also had free dialup for the week it took to get it switched on, service has been really good from them.

Im pretty sure all ISPs run through Telstras exchanges.

I've been with Internode for 5 years and have nothing buut praise for the quality of service. Slighty more expensive then many other providers, but worth it for stablity, speeds and customer service

Just all round really. Have a read of the site "Whirlpool" it's the best forum for ISP related stuff

And also out of the 410k members on the forum Internode is the most used

Recent Morgan poll all so measured the level of satisfaction with customers isp's and again Internode, iinet & TPG ranked the highest..

I'm with TPG, but if I had to start afresh, I'd probably go with Internode. Not because TPG are bad, they are actually very good, and despite some claims to the contrary, their support is very good (albeit with a bad Asio-American accent).

I switched to TPG naked unlimited last week. I forgot my password and had to call support, they were fine. They hammed on an american accent and their english was very good.

Speed wise it is ok, slower than my last (comcen). But it doesn't really matter, its not like I need to watch that TV episode RIGHT NOW. Wait a bit longer and now get 720p downloads for my slightly outdated 720p TV. The files look better on my TV than TV itself.

Just got node ADSL2+

Decent enough speeds at a great price.

Been on adsl1 for years, always got great support and friendly service over the phone.

Free steam downloads and full range of gaming servers is very nice.

Would be even cheaper if I was down south and not having to use a reach plan going through a telstra exchange.

Go node, best choice you will ever make. They don't sweep the polls in customer satisfaction for nothing.

Have been with TPG for over 10 years and they have always been good, over that time had 4 issues and they sorted them all in no time. Great value for money, would always stay clear of Telstra & Optus as the value is not there and you have to wait ages on the phone.

Internode the pick of the bunch IMO. Not the cheapest, but certainly not in the Bigpond type bullshit price range. Company I work for has used them for business ADSL across 3 premises over many years. I've had them across 3 houses in 2 states across close to a decade and only minor issues. They are quick to put up when things go wrong anywhere or outages are planned - unlike some ISP's who are a complete black box.

Unless you are really down to your last dollar the extra few bucks a month are worth the peace of mind.

Anyone got suggestions for best ADSL deals?

In a non ADSL2 area so it changes the game quite a bit.

Need a phone line to go with it but can't find any noteworthy deals looking through most the main mobs.

Not after a stack of download, something like 50gb is heaps. Just want something to justify me giving up my $39 6gb wireless broadband at the moment which is doing the job but would prefer more download and a more reliable connection.

Bit sad to see Westnet dropping down the rankings. Used to work there a while back and they were always winning awards for being a good ISP. I suspect iinet taking over has had some influence, although I used be with iinet and never had any problems.

I'm looking to get internode naked into my home at the moment, price is very similar to everywhere else (150GB) for $60 per month (I'm not a huge with downloads/uploads)
The major reason I'm going to them is so I don't have a sign a contract, it's month by month (setup fee is ~$120 but big deal..) and I'm able to sh1t-can it whenever I want as I might be moving in the not too distant future or may find a better option soon etc...

Everywhere else has only 12month and 24month contract (dodo only has 24month!) with the exception of TPG which has a 6month contract (setup fee of ~$150). Correct me if I'm wrong of course!

But that's the reason I'm going with Internode, no contract at the same price!

They are still winning awards, they are very proud of that fact in-house both at Westnet and iiNet;)

I am probably slightly biased but i think this offers great value...

I have been with Node for 7 years and have rarely had any issues. Price is pretty good, but service and downtime are second to none. Compared to bigpuddle it is like chalk and cheese.

I had a small problem around 3 weeks ago, which it was found to be a fault at the exchange and now they offer a SMS service to inform you when the fault is fixed. All i needed was to register my mobile with them.

I look at my connection status and i see 393 hrs since last drop out...that is pretty good imo.
