Judging on the criteria of accuracy, distance, and consistency (as well as the ability to achieve the imposible), who would be the best kick in the leauge at the moment, as well as all time?

For mine Tony Lockett and Bernie Quinlan (what I saw of him) would be the two greatest kicks of all time. Quinlan would have the edge on distance, but Lockett would claim accuracy/consistency.

While at the moment, B.Holland of Richmond is one who comes to mind for the criteria mentioned above.

Ben Graham can certainly kick like a mule

and here at Sydney we have a small, little known utility called Daniel MacPherson who has a HUGE kick for such a little guy.

I also think the usual suspects Carey, Buckley and Voss all kick the ball very very hard indeed.

Best of all time ? - Dunno but in my personal experience Lockett's accuracy puts him right up there.

Just a bit of trivia : In Rounds 18,19 and 20 in 1995 Lockett kicked an amazing 29 goals straight including 16 straight against Fitzroy - just an illustration of how accurate he really is.

cheers

Different types of Kicks have different exponents

1. Kicking for goal

2. Snap shots for goal

3. Passing a ball for a forward to mark

4. Successfully kicking out from full back

5. kicking it out of play without incurring a penalty

6. kicking it to a percentage position from a pack situation

Olmy,

I'm pretty sure that Ben Holland isn't our best kick. He is reasonably straight while on a set shot but isn't that good at passing. Of the other big players, I think Gale only missed twice last season from set shots - amazing accuracy - while Brad Ottens has a superb technique. Richo is the sort that will nail them from 60m out on the boundary, but will miss them from 20m directly in front.

IMHO our best kick is Greg Tivendale. If you see him anywhere within 60m of goal, expect him to kick it. He is also deadly on a pass over any distance.

Mark Chaffey and Joel Bowden are also 2 deadly, thumping left footers. Chaffey is a bit like the aforemention McPherson - a little player who give the ball a big thump.

Matthew Knights would be out best exponent of clever passing and Leon Cameron is confused as he doesn't know which foot is his natural one.

A good side is a balanced one, therefore to balance all this kicking skill we have recruited Darren Gaspar and Duncan Kellway!

Darren Jarman without a doubt.

Bombergal 0018, Caracella has a lot of room left for improvement with his kicking. Whilst his set shots are good, he has a tendency to drop the ball incorrectly while on the run.

Warren Ralph wasn't too shabby either. Would have like to have seen more than two seasons from him.

Malcolm Blight - a magnificent kick

Of the current players - Jarman

Agree with Old Dark Navy Blues (amazing) that Warren Ralph was a superb kick. Could safely back him from 55-60 metres.

Bowden is a good kick though - forgot about him. I've seen B.Holland knock a couple of long goals off in his time, and usually he gets most of his attempts from inside 50m.

I'm still sour on him for not joining the Roys in 95 though!

Darren Jarman for me is the best kick in the game. He's a little susceptible on a set shot, though still a good kick nevertheless, and is almost a certainty on the run. Amazing kick on either foot, whether it passing to team mate or going for goal, and he can also do the magical thing from the boundary line or tight angle, more often than not.

From the Lions - Quinlan ( best drop punt ever no question ), Doug Barwick and the torps from David McMahon.

Doug Wade - torps and drop kicks.
P. Hudson - kind of flat effort that never missed ( except when he was KO'ed )
Skilton - drop kick either foot.
I. Stewart - accurate over long distances.

Now - Lloyd and Hird for accuracy with distance , Hocking for that left foot drop punt low pass, Luke Power for being really clever.

Olmy,

I stand by my original statement. I agree the Ben Holland is a good kick at goal. I believe that Ben Holland is not so good at passing.

I believe that Benny Gale and Brad Ottens are at least as good on set shots as Ben Holland.

Our best kick, from either set shot or on the run, shooting at goal or passing is Greg Tivendale.

He is still only young (20 I think) and hasn't played many games but he is Jarmanesque when kicking.
