The great MMM

Josh is probably in our top 3 for the Copeland right now, his move to HB was the most deliberate tactic that the coaching staff put in place over the entire preseason, and he is doing a great job back there - possibly in AA conversation. And you want to move him to a wing after having not played there all year? The position that the coaching staff moved him away from last year?

He’d still be the 7th defender in that 22. Likely start on the pine with Crisp or Allan on the wing. I’d be more worried about leaving Frampton out.

Do we need membrey ?

If we have mcstay miho Jamie bobby beau shooter ?
Plus JDG ( 7 forwards there )

I think id rather have Mitchell or Perryman in 23

Becoming an increasingly hard side to pick - I'm going with the idea if we're all fit (barring the obvious long termers) and the grand final was this week how would I like us to line up:

J. Howe, B. Frampton, B. Maynard
J. Daicos, D. Moore, D. Houston

D. Cameron, N. Daicos, N. Long
P. Lipinski, S. Pendlebury, J. Crisp

B. McCreery, B. Mihocek, J. Elliott
B. Hill, D. Mcstay, L. Schultz

S. Sidebottom, T. Membrey, H. Perryman, I. Quaynor
Sub: J. De Goey

Emg: T. Mitchell, M. Cox, E. Allen, W. Hoskin-Elliott

Those emergencies show why we can really win it

Hi All,

There is an issue which I think (from my aging memory..lol) is still yet to be resolved by the AFL.

It relates to who is eligible to receive the premiership medallion. Of course, the current 23 do, but as we can see by our potential emergencies (refer post by #Johno9911), these listed players have contributed to our success and hopefully next premiership.

I think there should be a club led proposal which recognises the 23 plus the named emergencies for the medal after the game and medals are awarded to all players who have played a seniors game during this year. These additional receipents are recognised at the club B&F night.

If we want to be an inclusive club, a seperate club award (ring) for the entire list should also be considered.

Just a thought...

Always an interesting discussion. Would the players that weren't on the ground in the game want a medal? I'm all for some kind of recognition though. Nobes crying in 2023 was heartbreaking

It is an interesting question and Nobes was very distraught amongst others who missed out.

Why not survey the players via the AFLPA to understand their perspective...?

I think it needs to be tackled now rather than once the finals have commenced. Before we know it, another season has ended (we are celebrating yet again..;-) and no progress made.

Agree. The current system is needlessly cruel, especially for players like Ron McKeown and JFN.

I don't know the right answer, but some recognition for contribution would be accepted by all. If a player has taken part in 10 games or more, for example, they should be recorded as premiership players.

I think I’m fine with the current system as heart rending as it can be for those who don’t play on GF day.

The players all know the system and I’m not sure that they’d be keen on a medal having not played in the GF.

I’ve never been to a post GF event when the team takes the cup home to it’s fans but I think this would be a great time to honour all who contributed throughout the season.

History could record all the players from the squad who took part in a certain number of games.

The players taking part in the GF still get the medal.

It's a small consolation, but it means that decades down the track, the contribution is recognised.

Doesn't replace the thrill of the day for the winning team. Nothing could.

Couldn't squeeze the 2023 norm Smith medallist in?

Depending on who we played in a GF, if it were Adelaide

Moore Frampton Maynard
Josh D Howe Houston (very lucky)
Lippa Nick D Sidebottom
Membrey Mihocek McCreery
Shultz McStay Elliott
Cameron DeGoey Pendles

Long Crisp Quaynor Hill Sub: Hoskin-E

Emerg: Perryman (apologies) Mitchell Allen

If we played Brisbane:

Perryman Moore Maynard
Josh D Howe Houston (very lucky)
Lippa Nick D Sidebottom
Membrey Mihocek McCreery
Shultz McStay Elliott
Cameron DeGoey Pendles

Long Crisp Quaynor Hill Sub: Hoskin-E

Emerg: Frampton (apologies) Mitchell Allen

FWIW, what a player Shultz has become. Jack Ginnivan who?
