Who is the best mark of the ball at Geelong?
In my opinion, it is as follows:

1)- Brad Ottens- Some of the more solid hands in the AFL, super big mits, and is so reliable. Remember the game vs Port at skilled this year, his matchsaving (until big H buggered it!) marks on the wing???

2)- Tom Harley- Countless saving marks in defence this year. Without him, I dont think we would have won the premiership

3)- Jimmy Bartel- Plays alot taller than he is in terms of marking. I would say the most corageous mark in the team- that mark in 2005 vs the dogs i think

4)- Cameron Ling- Has suprisingly good hands, probrably from his junior days as a forward. Took numerous contested marks in the forward 50 this year resulting in many goals.

5)- Cam Mooney- Some would argue he should be higher, but i still think he can improve on his contested marking. The strength is certainly there though.

And then there is Chappy, who could easily be in there, Scarlett obviously, Gablett and i'm certain ive forgotton someone. Im sure Tommohawk would be in there, but i havent seen enough to suggest that!

Most memorable marks for me this would be Lings vs port in 2005. Saved the match at AAMI but what was so good about it was that it was our 1st win interstate in far too long. It was taken at CHB and the port forwards were ready to pounce!

The other kills me to say and it is Nathan Abletts in the Grand Final this year. The one hander resulting in a goal, which showed his absolute class (and told me the kid could finally make it, but look what has happened!)

Thoughts.........
Thanks

Gary over Pert

Any suggestion otherwise is blasphemy
That would be mine as well. I was like 10 rows away from it. Will never forget it.

But if we are talking about the current squad, Chappy would be the most exciting. Otto and Harley the most reliable. Mooney is great at diving marks.

out of the kcf's list i'd probasbly have Dasha in there but i'm not sure who i'd take out though. there all good.

most memorable mark for me (as in seen live) was Gary snr's screamer over Danny Frawley in the first rounmd of the '92 Foster's Cup at Waverley on a Wednesday night, the first Cats game i went to.

i liked Otto's mark in Sydney and his mark against Power at AAMI in '05. Great contested grab in goal square.

If we're talking all time, so since I was born in 87, my top marks would be:

1. Gary Ablett Snr v Collingwood
2. Brad Ottens v Sydney
3. Clint Bizzell v Collingwood
4. Paul Chapman v Port Adelaide
5. Matt McCarthy v West Coast

In saying that, Ablett Snr could have any number in there.

For best marks in the current squad and best hands, you can't go past Ottens, Bartel, Harley, Milburn and Scarlett.

35 seconds into this clip - amazing mark. Still get the spine chills watching it. My husbands favourite player and my favourite outside Essendon!

Edit: I think it was 2004 though

I would've thought Mark Bairstow would rate up there. From your current squad it'd have to be Mark Blake by default, though on a technicality you could give Mark Thompson a gong. :p

Tom Harley is easily the best mark at our club. Bartel has good hands fo ra midfielder. ANd i think in terms of courageous marks, Rooke and Ling have to be up there along with Bartel.

Best mark in my memiry, G Abletts against Norht in the Prelim in 1994, wasnt spectacular but boy was it effective haha

"Mark" Thompson :p

Seriously, Mooney IMO is your best mark if it's a hard physical slog, though I'd prefer Scarlett if it was a fast paced game.

Most memorable would have to be Ottens, at least from this year. McCarthy from 2003 was pretty special too.

IMO Toppa Harley has the best hands in the club. (except in the prelim where he couldnt hold anyhthing at the start of the game.)

eqaul second would be jimmy bartel and chappy. both take contested marks extremely well.

best mark would have to gaz over pert. or chappy over the smug bastard tredrea in the gf :)

I'd have Moons and Otto up there for sheer strength in contested situations. Tom has a great pair of hands but doesn't take as many contested marks simply because he is so often in that hole in the backline.

Of course, hard to go past Jimmy for sheer courage and overhead ability compared to his height.

Gazza's over Pert for mine is the most memorable, but he's taken so many other spectacular grabs that he'd have to have about the top 20 that I've seen!

Matthew Scarlett is a superb mark of the football, both contested and in the genral field of play, it's a very underrated aspect of his game.

He has lead Geelong in marks from opposition kicks every year he's played and I wouldn't mind betting that aside from this year, he's been right up there for contested grabs at the Cattery too.

Mooney takes more marks down low than anyone I've seen, i.e diving for the ball. Harley and Egan are great through the air. Bartel plays 10 inches taller than he is, and has glue hands.

There's quite a few.

BEST MARKS - In no particular order; Otto, Milburn, Mooney, Bartel, Chapman and Gazza.
Oopps.. forgot Harley.
MOST MEMORABLE - Any one of a dozen of of Gazza (senior)
For me,it's Chappy's because it was in a winning Grand Final and topped the whole day quite nicely.:thumbsu:
