I tried to keep it to more of the solo guitarists or innovators. So no Angus, Dimebag, Mick Marrs etc.
I was thinking of maybe Paul Gilbert, Tony Imoni (sp), Richie Blackmore, Jason Becker as well but you have to stop somewhere.
Im waiting for the no Hendricks mob attack, but he wasnt metal and was more distortion than speed etc.

Fair enough. Maybe an other option would allow for that line of thinking.

I grew up idolising Dime so I invariably go back to him when the convo is metal guitarists.

In terms of writing emotive stuff whilst being technically excellent - it'd have to be either Schenker or Rhoades.

Schenker UFO albums vs. Uli Jon Roth Scorpions, now that's a tough call.

Buckethead
Andy James
Paul Wardingham
Angel Vivaldi
Gary Holt
