Whilst Dangerfield has a lot of upside, Morton clearly has more. He is just one of those prospects which recruiters drool over, unless of course they are fixated on a player who works in their merchandise store :D

Yeah, Cale has enormous upside, and showed a lot this year as well, some great examples being his game against the Saints earlier in the year, against the Bulldogs at the 'G, the WCE game at Subi, his 3-goal effort against the Cats at Kardinia, and his shutdown job on Goodes, as well as many other good efforts throughout this year...

Picked Cotchin because he is the most exciting youngstar I've ever seen. That doesn't count for much if he can't get fit and stay on the park.

I am a huge fan of Dangerfield. He reminds me alot of Buckley but also has the versatility of Hird to go forward.

Once Morton puts on enough weight (any weight would be nice Cale) he will be a very good player. 191 + cm with elite disposal who can run all day. I couldn't say he'll become the best pure midfielder out of the group you mentioned though.

I would kill to have Dangerfield down at the Dees and think he's the best of the lot atm.

That said, I think Morton has the most upside due to his height, engine and skills... but i'm obviously biased.

Child please.

Yes, I was going to point out that AFL recruiters obviously don't judge players by dodgy, lame-ass carefully edited YouTube clips

Is this top 10 only? Because Callan Ward already shits on most of these players

thought i would just do a poll that gave some sort of indication on the performance on recruiters have high picks versus those who have mid to low first rounders. For example, even though Morton was taken at 4, he may not be worth that pick considering the players around him, still all are gonna be great to watch over the next decade plus Higgins too who I think has more potential has a goalkicking midfielder/forward then a pure mid like Dangerfield, Palmer and Cotchin.

Morton was rated top 3 by nearly every recruiter, and one of the best recruiters in the business (Clayton) rated him number 1.

Morton has delivered more than most of the other names up there and still has the most potential.

Morton will be one of the best players in the competition by 2011, not a doubt in my mind.

I think the draft order wouldn't have changed that much if at all so far although it is a bit hard to rate Myers

From a West Coast perspective

I was very impressed with Masten after he started playing in the midfield half way through the season, more so considering his OP issues

He played 7 consecutive games where he had 20 or more possesions including 38 against Port

Still think Cotchin has the most potential though

As for Dangerfield, impressive as he was i still think he is being a bit overated as a midfielder in this poll so far, I know stats aren't everything but he only averaged 13 possession a game this year with a season high 20 against Freo back in rd 3.

All the other players aside from Myers have been pretty consitent in getting 20 posessions or more in games so far in their short careers

Oh the irony. :o

It was pretty obvious I was joking in the first post, but hey, fair call.

Not sure why you you would go with the embarrassment smiley though, aside from the fact you just include it in every post regardless of the content.

Except for every recruiter that went before him - what are the odds of that?

In theory, this could simply mean that only 1 club didn't rate him top 3, and that would be West Coast.

Carlton and Richmond may still have placed him in the top 3 (or even top 2), but just behind the players they selected.

As such, your point is ill-conceived.

Dangerfield also kicked over twenty goals, at one stage in the season was leading our hard ball gets. Stats aren't everything and in Dangerfields case, he probably had more impact then say Masten who was averaging more touches. When he gets a preseason into him (didn't really have one this season) then he will be able to move into the midfield where he can start averaging twenty plus touches a game.

As a pure midfielder, I picked Dangerfield. He looks like a sensational prospect.

Cale Morton will probably not spend too much time in the center but should become a sensational winger.

This footballer was the best midfielder selected in the 2007 draft.

Lock the thread.

:thumbsu:

Only averaged 12 disposals a game so far in his career. Still behind the rest of the bunch in terms of midfield ability.

I understand what your saying and i did mention that Stats aren't everything in my post.

But the differance is that the others (aside from Myers) have played roles predominatley in the midfield already and played well which IMO justifies their draft rankings so far.

So taking that into account it was quite supprising to see Dangerfield ranked so highly in a pole about midfielders whilst only averaging 13 possesions a game.

I see where you are coming from but this is a poll on midfield potential. Dangerfields leg speed, clearance work, hardball gets would be the reason he rates so highly. The other players have class but that Judd like breakaway speed is sometimes the difference between very good and the best.

Based purely on potential?

Cotchin>Morton>Dangerfield>Myers>Masten>Palmer

What I actually think they'll achieve in their careers?

Dangerfield>Masten>Morton>Palmer>Cotchin>Myers

Also notice how this poll isn't skewed in favour of West Coast as has been implied before.
