For what it's worth, My grandad who had a bit to do with the VFL then came over to WA said Stephan Michael was the greatest player to ever play the game

Me? the most influencial individual ive seen was Judd>>Carey/Franklin/Tredrea/Cox

3 games a season? J Brown

Almost great? Riewoldt.

Consistent? Ablett Voss Goodes Buckley Mitchell Riccuto Hird Pavlich McLeod

For the poster who said Cox, Absolutely, He doesnt get the love he should. Absolutely changed the way ruckmen are supposed to play. and was just consistently on another level then anyone. Only Sandilands ever got close.

Here we go haha

I'll start us off with a nice controversial one. Dean Cox

Cox is one of the all-time greats. Finished off his career like shit, but by golly was he a player to be feared in his prime.

Lots of smart aleck comments to start with, so I'm going to offer up a serious suggestion. Leigh Matthews.

In 1977 he averaged 27 touches a game and kicked 91 goals! This was decades before high possession footy, for instance, 20 touches a game was considered elite as recently as 10-15 years back. 27 touches and 3.8 goals a game in those days, blimey.

332 games, 4 flags and 900+ goals as a mid/forward. Not a bad coach either.
