Tony Shaw? he finished at the end of 1994, and hardly played a decent game after the 1990 Grand Final.

Lockett, very good, Dunstall also very good and Carey are excellent choices.

But aren't we forgetting an certain alledged drug addict from down Geelong way. (I said alledged)

87 goals from the half forward line in 1992,
113 goals from 17 games in 1993
120+ goals in 1994
120+ goals in 1995
70+ goals in 1996 from 15 games at the age of 34.

3 Coleman medals, 1 Norm Smith medal, not a bad player was he.

1. Ablett
2. Carey
3. Lockett
4. Silvagni
5. G. Williams
6. Buckley
7. Dunstall
8. Harvey
9. Matera
10.Hird

Special mentions to C.Grant, P.Couch, D.Kemp, S.Rehn and M.Voss

Carey
Lockett
Ablett
Jakovich (G)

Pess, Grendel - sorry I couldn't fit in Jase - he, Voss, Hird and Harvey at all at equal 5th.

If Hird and Long had been fit they'd have been pushing for a place. Reckon Hird might be close for this decade though....

Except in Grand Finals... this is where Dermie possibly pips him for influence... 8 in a team that get beaten by 80+ points in 85 was something special. Has Carey ever kicked more than 1-2 in a GF (Night or Day?)

Controversial I know but...

In no particular Order

Harvey-back to back brownlows!!
Carey-he pretty damn good
Ablett-so fun to watch
Matera-5 goals in GF Norm Smith, awesome in full flight.
Dunstall-3rd all time goal kicking list.
Lockett-1st all time goal kicking list!
Jakovich-only man alive who can stop his majesty the king, and stop him well he can.

Honourable Mentions : Kemp, Dermie, Hird, Buckley.

2000 the year of the Eagle

1. Tony Lockett
2. Jason Dunstall
3. Wayne Carey
4. Tony Shaw

Tony shaw in your top 4 "YOU DICKHEAD"...

1. Carey best since 94
2. Dunstall best before 94
3. Williams ,god that hurts to say
4. Lockett to lazy in his St.Kilda years and on a pocket ground in his Sydney ones to be top 3.
5. Matera just unstoppable mid 90's
6. Jarman may suprise some, but finals records stand out and was just so good to watch.

Then the rest of a pretty good bunch like Jakovich/Mckenna/Hird (sorry dutch he just missed to much footy to be ranked higher)Long/Silvangi/Harvey/Lyon (cant believe no one else even mentioned him)Buckley/Voss/Kouta/Wanganeen/Platten/Roos/
Hocking/Rehn so many really outstanding players.

Ablett? I wouldnt have him top ten for a couple of reasons one his finals record is very ordinary (it was 89 he dominated this is best of 90's) and could be so bloody LAZY with second efforts and when things were going against Geelong. But mainly I think his finals efforts in the 90's set me against selecting him. Remember its only an opinion

So now he gets written off for following team instructions, I haven't seen him play his normal CHF/FF position in a Grand Final except 95 Night, 98, 2000 Night.

95 Night - definately in the best 3 tore Smaart apart.
96 - Best on ground should have had the Norm Smith wrapped up, but his own reputation beat him again.
98 Night - Micheal Tuck Medal
98 - It's just an empty space now
99 - scragged by sos for 2 hours and still got North's first and last goals, and turned the game when he became a midfielder.
2000 Night - Essendon did the job, but he lives to fight another day.

Dutchie, normally agree with what you have to say but not this time.

Fair dues LJ. Mostly just looking for a rise there....

Pretty hard to judge really - just cos Dermie played in a better side doesn't necessarily mean Carey is better (and vice Versa).

Still for some reason I prefer Dermie -
I think the reason is that Dermie did it against the best Essendon team I've ever seen and hurt us consistently for 6-7 years. Carey beat reasonable Essendon sides with 15 minutes of power probably for 4-5 years - not anymore though... so its totally subjective - plus when Derm was at his peak I was a teenager and as such he looked a lot bigger and scarier...

Push comes to shove I'd want both in my side anyday.... getting fed all day by James Hird, Leon Baker and Tim Watson - with Peter Matera kicking 60 metre bombs off a wing...

droooooolllllllllll

Yeh there all really good playersbut there either forwards or midfielders what about som e of the great backman steven silvagni Sergio Silvangni Jackovich dutin letcher
and ets not forget the greatest player of all time tony GODRA modra

The best players of the 90's:
1. Robert Harvey
2. Wayne Carey
3. Stephen Silvagni
4. Gary Ablett
5. Tony Lockett
6. Peter Matera
7. Greg Williams
8. Paul Kelly
9. Mick Martyn
10. Craig Bradley

The greatest players of the 1990's in order are :

1.) Ben Doolan
2.) Keenan Reynolds
3.) Darren Wheildon
4.) Mark Majerczak
5.) Anthony Banik
6.) Jeff Hogg
7.) Austin McCrabb
8.) Rayden Tallis
9.) Tony Begovich
10.) Adam Saliba
11.) Mark Richardson
12.) Dean Bailey

These players are easily the top 12 players of the 1990's. In order. I urge anyone to tell me why they aren't. Ben Doolan held down a spot in a strong Essendon team for a number of years......that's a great effort.

Keenan Reynolds was a consistent player for the Bulldogs in the early 90's, before playing with the strong North Melbourne team. Sure, he didn't play well at North, but why should that count against him, when his Footscray years were superb. He held the Doggies together.

Doc Wheildon, was full-forward in the struggling Fitzroy team. It takes a great player to kick goals in a losing team, and the "Doc" provided that.

Mark Majerczak at Carlton was a hero to the Blue army, while Banik and Hogg played regular senior football at the Tigers, often together ! Hogg led the goalkicking at the Tigers for a number of years...... in a battling team. That makes his heroics even more special.

As for Austin McCrabb and Rayden Tallis.....what more needs to be said. Adam Saliba wasa hero to the Adelaide faithful. His silky skills wee awe-inspiring.

The list goes on.....

Paul Salmon and Shane Crawford might not be top 4 but should be among the ones dicussed here

I think Jarman (in crows guernsey)provided the best moments I have seen in the nineties

I find it hard to agree with Silvagni in any 'best of' He may have great talent but his type of play should be outlawed in my opinion so why reward it.

A slight twist ..

The 'IF ONLY' factor.

A. Lynch. A absolute superstar in 1993 in an average team , after being a solid fullback ( highly rated by Lockett ). Then something happened...

M. Richardson. Got the lot, including an unbelievable run of injuries. Will he EVER get it together ?

Any others ?

Mark West of the bulldogs - pure poetry in motion on the infrequent times he's not been injured - He's been so unlucky

Mark West can also be a thug, like Gary Moorcroft. I remember him using the ol’ elbow-to-the-head trick against the Crows in ’97.

Until this year, Koutafides would have qualified as an ‘if only’ player, as someone who had all the attributes of a superstar and yet wasn’t.
