POTY

5. Mark Ricciuto - Outstanding effort once again from the skipper, leading right from the front. His second half was unbelievable.

4. Matthew Clarke - smashed port Adelaide in the ruck and gave our mid-fielders first look at the ball. Huge contributor to our victory.

3. Wayne Carey - his best performance for the year playing as one of the two CHF's covering the HF line (very clever move by Ayres by the way). He and McGregor really gave us targets across HF.

2. Tyson Stenglein - must have read this board, because he still got the center clearances but got a fair distance on them as well!! ;) Won a heap of hard balls.

1. Andrew McLeod - certainly looked interested tonight as a mid-fielder resting at FF. Showed some real touches of the old Macca at times.

Apologies to McGregor, Hentschel, Johncock, Massie, Doughty, Edwards and others.

Best Team Man

3. Kenny McGregor - Along with Carey as our dual CHF's really gave us a target to aim at.

2. Stiffy Johncock - worked his arse off in the forward lines, to either get the ball or hold it in the area. 4 goals didn't hurt either.

1. Trent Hentschel - a real calming influence on the backlines with his coool head and immaculate disposal.

Rookie

I'd love to give 2 votes this week, I really would. Both Jericho and Hentschel deserve a vote for really good contributions and efforts.

If forced to split the vote goes to Jericho for doing so well with such limited experience.

1. Luke Jericho

1. Trent Hentschel

Idiot quote of the week

Direct from the Port Board - how to make yourself look like an ignorant tool.

They are a crap teeam this year and anything less than a 6 or 7 goal win would disappoint.
Yes, Eddie Woloschek, Roo did turn up didn't he?? BOG

As for the rest of the rubbish .......pffft!!!

Great win. Its a case of all played well. A real 4 quarter effort with high intensity and every played did their bit for the side.

Best on Ground

5 - Mark Ricciuto - What a captains game. Can't go past him led from the front all night. 36 possesions, 25 in the second half says it all.

4 - Matthew Clarke - What a game he played. Absolutely dominated in the ruck and his 2nd and 3rd effort were a feature. A catalyst to the win.

3 - Tyson Stenglein - Leaders had to step up tonight and Stinger did it extremely well. Guts, determination, courage. This bloke will be our next captain. Took some pressure of Roo tonight.

2 - Andrew McLeod - Had a very good game. Still not back to his best but he was very good. Have you ever seen him kick it out on the full when kicking for goal.

1 - Ken McGregor - When we had to stamp our authority early Kenny was a shining light at CHF that straighten us up. Took 9 marks most of them on Chad Cornes (no easy task) and kicked 3 goals

Best Team Man

These are more the players that deserved BOG votes but couldn't fit them in

3 - Graham Johncock - how good was his 2nd quarter?????? A real dynamite who is a match winner. What a way to return to form.

2 - Wayne Carey - Best game of the year. He was given a lot more freedom where he could roam teh field a bit and used his footy smarts to set up a number of plays. He was fantastic

1 - Brett Burton - ran hard all day. Blocked the space in front of Tredrea well. Played very well.

Rookie

1 - Luke Jericho - Did not dominate but just did his role very well today. Had a bit of the ball and kicked a couple of goals. One of them was a real pressure goal that needed to be kicked to put hte nail in the coffin.

Honourable mention to Hentschel who was also good tonight.

He's got all the ingredients, hasn't he, and he's probably playing a year ahead of his time.

He's an exciting player.

He is Raw as hell but give him a couple of years and he will be something special. After today I am even more convinced that Jericho and Watts are the players that we can build the forward line around.

Terrific performance wasn't it?

I was incredulous when I read Rodney Eade's description in Friday's paper of Ricciuto (and McLeod which is fair enough) as "hot and cold".

I reckon Ricciuto's up there with Tredrea, Buckley and Voss for week in/week out consistency.

You're starting to sound more and more like the 5AA sporting commentary team! :p

Jericho is certainly something special, with Watts and himself creating blonde trouble in our forward line, throw in Schuback aswell, we may have the forward line of the future. And then with Hentschell in the defence..it's hard not to get excited about the new crows blood! :)
Speaking of the future I'll say it now; it'll be a sad, sad day when Ricciuto and McLeod retire! :(

btw; What was Gallagher's playing time all up?

I don't know if thats an insult or a compliment :p

I was VERY impressed with Watts today. He is just a goer. When trhe ball was not down his end he would push and shove his opponent and get right under their skin. His hands are unbelieveable. Hopefully Krueger also comes along nicely. I am not too worried about the forward line. Defence looks OK in the long run but we need midfielders.

Roo and McLeod have at least another 3 years in them.

Gallagher and Bode got about 2 minutes between them :p

Take it as a comliment Stiffy!! ;)

Watts is coming on nicely, isn't he. He's in foreign territory playing out of a pocket, because the Eagles have a good CHF and FF, but still improving week by week. He has very strong hands in a contested situation, which is just what the doctor ordered.

It's a pity he couldn't play CHF because I think he would develop even quicker if that was the case.

He's got the goodies alright.

His kicking is improving as well, as I noticed he's holding the ball correctly now - they've obviously been working on this with him.

I'd like one more classy young tall and a couple of quick inside mid-fielders in the draft this year.

Just have to say...absolutely bloody loved it tonight!!

Best on Ground

5 - Mark Ricciuto - The guy is an absolute legend. There's nothing else you can say.

4 - Tyson Stenglein - I love this guy. Hard at it all the time. And such a strong grab for a little fella.

3 - Matthew Clarke - Rucked brilliantly. Absolutely cut Laid and Brogan up.

2 - Ken McGregor - Loved his game tonight. Complete turn around from the disaster that was last week.

1 - Andrew McLeod - Good to see him have a great one in his 200th.

Stiffy - Very unlucky not to get a vote.

Best Team Man

3 - Clarkey - See above.

2 - Wayne Carey - I think I'm liking this role for him on the half forward flank. Seemed a lot freer and set a lot of the play up. Also had a few beautiful taps while rucking in the forward fifty and set up that goal from defence late in the first half.

1 - Graham Johncock - Brilliant second term. Set the game a light.

Rookie

1 - Luke Jericho - Really like this kid. That run late in the second term on the outer flank was blistering. A few good handballs under pressure to set things up in the forward line and a nice cluth goal.

Unlucky - Hentschel

THere's something in Jerricho's on field demeanor that suggests your right.
For a first year player, is really calm, and looks at home - probably shouldn't be playing yet, but will be so much better next year for the experience.

Credit where credit is due.
I have often said Clarke was overrated by Crows supporters, well last night he proved me wrong. He was BOG IMO, and from what I have read in a lot of other Port supporters opinion.
I suppose we don't lose the ruck very often, and when we do it really sticks out.

Forgot all about Krueger, how's he performing? Is he performing or is he still injured? Are any of our rookies performing well?
Speaking of the defensive future; add Parker in there aswell. Midfielders that I can think of; Reilly, with help from Gallagher, Bode and Doughty.
