Best possible jumper compromise for 2012

FFS, why are we wasting everyones time with this little discussion between people who all agree? Do something usefull & tell the club! rattle the cage. If the decision about next year's strip has not been made, it is pretty damn close. So have your say.

The whole world knows the current jumper is a joke - instead of carping in the background, stand up 7 BE COUNTED.

This is a copy of an email I sent to the club yesterday.

Attn: Malcolm Holmes

Welcome to our club, Malcolm. As a long term member, I endorse the direction the club has taken since Angus Johnson assumed the Chairmanship. Email communication from me to the previous CEO & Chairman would show that I was no great fan of their direction for the club. I fully support the decisions taken by Steven Wright & yourself - particularly regarding players & the relationship with Fitzroy & Melbourne members/supporters.

However, in my opinion, the most important decision for the future is our playing strip. As stated in emails to the club, I consider the current design to be an amateurish corruption of a great symbol. Far from being a marketing success - I would wager that marketing revenues are underwhelming - it has caused great division not only in Victoria, but achieved nothing in our Queensland heart land. In short, the 'paddlepop' Lion has become a symbol of failure & division, almost to the point of derision amongst grass roots football fans.

I urge you to return to the traditional Brisbane Lion on our jumper. If not a return to the original jumper, then to an updated version of this classic symbol. As a relatively new player, KooGa will be receptive to such a change, in my view. In this new era of the club there is an obvious need for change - to distance us from the disastrous decisions of the last few years. It is my belief that such a move will have an immediate impact on support & memberships, in Queensland as well as Victoria - and be hugely beneficial in repairing damaged relationships.

You will find several attachments (available from the internet) of updated Lions logos that I believe will be embraced by all Lions members/supporters - and Fitzroy traditionalists.

One development this year I applaud is to see the red Fitzroy version of our jumper used in Melbourne rather than the soul less white 'clash' strip. Thankyou. If we must wear a clash strip, is there a reason it cannot be largely Lions gold rather than white?

I have not, and I will not, purchase any merchandise with the 'paddlepop' symbol. However, with a return to a version of the original Lion, I will proudly buy & wear it. From talk, and internet contact, with a wide variety of Lions members/supporters I have found this to be a widely held view.

Another improvement I would like to suggest is to replace the BBFFC at the top on the back with a stylised amalgamation of the Fitzroy logo & the Bears logo. I am sure this will have a great impact with the old Fitzroy faithfull, as well as all old Bears & Brisbane Lions fans. I have attached a version of this.

Yours sincerely

We all know the current jumper is an embarrassment & a joke - so do something about it. Or just sit behind a keyboard & talk. The choice is yours.

Good email, Bunton, and agree 100%. However, they are already doing this for next year. The BBFFC on the back of the jumper is being changed to that little old Lion logo with the BBFFC above it as of next year. They wanted it for this year, but could not get it done in time.

Who is this "great" Matthew Campbell of whom you speak??

A different one to the blithering idiot/waste of space/oxygen thief heard rambling on during Footy telecasts, no doubt.?

Sarcasm detector Luthor ;)

Sorry young Everton... but just don't agree with you...seriously, going back to our right and proper jumper is not a backward step...its just not..

..its righting a wrong...and putting our club back to rights, the final piece in the cleansing process that has taken place at our club since the review..

Don't ever think going back is always wrong.....its not, if its the right thing to do and the answer is back there..

Well said MM :thumbsu:

I quite like the current home and away jumpers, now that the lion's body is included. If you look past the fact that it was almost a complete debacle, the turning of the head to face forward is hardly a big change.

I know that I'm in the minority but, aside from the clash jumper, I think they should remain the same. I'd love a gold with maroon based clash jumper moving forward, similar to the flood appeal but with our new lion instead of the state outline.

In a perfect world it would be nice if the jumpers got changed back to the 2009 version, but this would obviously be a huge backwards step for the club so these jumpers would be the perfect compromise. The home, away and clash jumper will represent the past, present and future.

Home
Maroon and Blue made darker to represent Fitzroy before the 70's, but the maroon stays maroon instead of red to represent Queensland. The old Lion goes where the heart of the jumper is, just like what Fitzroy did, with the words BBFFC below it.

Away
The old Lion goes where the heart of the jumper is, just like what Fitzroy did, with the words BBFFC below it. This jumper would be worn for Victorian away games.

Clash
The colour scheme is to represent the Brisbane Bears but with a Fitzroy twist. Worn for away games outside Victoria.

Nice effort Everton.

While I am definitely very strongly in the 'go back to the old jumpers' camp, I think you have done a reasonable job.

My biggest problem with the current jumpers (apart from the Lion not being the Fitzroy Lion) is that there is too much blue and the Lion is too big. However, I think on your jumpers the Lion looks too small, which makes it even more cartoonish. I wouldn't mind seeing your jumpers with a Lion that is half way in between in terms of size.

The other problem is with the Bears clash jumper, with the Lion sort of unrecognisable due to the background colour. I am not sure how you would fix this.

Personally I'd prefer this since it's more in line with the '01 design -- lion sitting higher on the chest, more maroon -- just with the Costa Sports lion.

Having said that, if they go back to the '09 version I'd be more than happy.

No.

Maybe the FITZROY lion Sitting Loud and Proud in it's original position.
You could slap the Paddlepop Head Logo on the Chest (as they did on the QLD spirit jumper)

Then, after a few years when the Pop becomes completely redundant (being that it is the only logo not legally enforceably placed on official media) – you could just ditch it.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like the new Lion and they should have kept the jumper and Lion the same, but it has unfortunately been changed and changing it back completely would be a going backwards. Also the old Lion is on the jumper, near the heart and the paddle-pop is where the gut is.

swap those two, and we are set. Also, the Lion shouldn't be on the guts - more at chest level, like a shield.

Also, Paddle pop at the heart doesn't need the whole Lion, it can have just the paddle pop head. Fair compromise if you ask me.

Agreed.

Put the new logo (just the head) over the heart and give the classic Lion its rightful place back on the chest.

I know others hate it, but I have started to get used to the new logo, don't mind it anymore. I now associate it with the club.

That Paddlepop frankenlion on the jumper though... I still hate it with a passion.

This is our jumper.

100% correct.

There is nothing "backwards" about this guernsey. The O.P on this thread is rubbish, as are our current range of jumpers.

If the current administration brings back our Triple Premiership strip and the 2009 Fitzroy themed away strip, I will once again take out a Victorian Family Membership, for 2012 and beyond.

Yep that would be fine with me too. When I get time I am going to write to the Club with some of these suggestions.

I'm with the BrownDog. The new logo actually doesn't look too bad when you see it on say for e.g. tv screens, the newspaper etc. it's just the design of the jerseys which make it an absolute nightmare.

The new logo is ok as just a head logo, but it's bloody horrible sitting on the lion body and needs to be changed. I'd like to have just 1 lion logo for our jumper, but i'm happy to have the lion head as our little logo on media stuff, along with the old lion.
