I recall a game against Adelaide at Footy Park in 94. Platts kicked 6 and we smashed the Froot Loops.

For me, last qtr, 2013 prelim. Purely as it looked like they were going to do it again to us, beating us against the odds, so much hanging on it. I've never been happier at a game of footy ever. That was pure happiness when that siren sounded

Buddy's 13: the Third quarter was amazing. They were completely shut out and couldn't get it into there forward 50 until the last 5 minutes! Awesome display of complete football.

2012 game, Rd 13 or 14? Hawthorn vs Collingwood - without Buddy and Hodgey for the game, the third quarter we just completely annihilated them. It was amazing, and Jordan Lewis was brilliant kicking 3 in the quarter. One of my favorite games. Sleek, skilled, demolishin footy!

2014 rd 3 vs Fremantle: That first quarter, and second too actually - Football played at its absolute best. It was a no fear brand by an ultra confident team! Brilliant to see.

2014 Grand final - 2nd quarter - I listen to the radio broadcast of this quarter every day at work and I'm still not sick of it. Still gets me pumped up!

Those last 3 I have said were the best I think we have played this decade. It's amazing we played all 3 without our gun ex-former superstar Buddy.

That Collingwood game was a thing of sheer beauty. I was just shaking my head in that quarter.
I think that game opened everyone's eyes as to how good we really are. Jack Gunston really showed everyone that he will be a star that game. The work of Burgoyne and Cyril at times was breathtaking, I was speechless at the cleanness and efficiency we played with.

3Q - Round 17, 2012 vs Collingwood.

A complete performance without Franklin and Hodge against a preliminary finalist opponent. There's been more productive quarters over the years but none containing as many blinding passages of champagne football.
I came on to post this one. I remember it well. Watched it so many times.
There was a play that culminated in Clinton Young goal that was near perfection.

Agreed on that Collingwood game, but (off-topic) I actually think the most complete and awesome game this current team has ever played (except maybe the 2014 GF) was the following week against Essendon - 27.18.180 to 12.14.86. Some of the most breathtaking attacking footy ever played.

I still can't really figure out how we didn't win the flag in 2012.

Two injuries, Whitey and Goo and the kicking yips early, that's how I see it.

Was at the Pies game with a Pie mate, he was in awe, it was a train wreck for him but he still watched for the quality on display.

I think it was described as the Harlem Globetrotters of football. It was brilliant. Rough to Mitch to Cyril to Young to goal... perfect.

For me though, one of the goals of the game was, pies got the clearance, hawks spoiled it, Burgoyne grabbed the ball, got tackled and still freed his arms superbly, then to roughy then sewell... to the running Cyril who kicks a perfect ball to Gunner! I thought that was the perfect transition goal... just pure silk.

I remember both games. Each was superb. During the Essendon game I remember thinking we were as quick, lethal and accurate as a high powered laser. Just mind blowing.

The first half against Freo was probably better that the 2nd in the Grannie. Certainly proved we could play with total dominance. If the bookies had watched the Freo game in the lead up to the GF then we would never get $3, more like $1.05.

A mate spoke to Clarko recently and Clarko's view was that the Freo game this year was a more complete performance than the GF.

Because Fremantle are better than Sydney.
As for best quarters:
1988 GF: Q2: included ridiculous power football, dipper goal from boundary on one side and dermie's from the other. Also Jamie Morrissey goal.
Also one game against cats at princes park, scores level at half time, hawks then kicked 12 goals in q3 and 13 in q4 to win by 135 points. Anyone remember that? Dunstall had 1 at half time and finished with 11....

I don't get this.

In the grand final we kicked at least 5 goals in every quarter (this feat is really rare in home and away games let alone finals and grand finals). We didn't once let up and pretty much played the perfect game.

The Fremantle game was great but after half time it was pretty meh to be honest. We didn't kick on and kick a huge amount of goals, we let them bring the margin back alot and they ended up on 91 points or so. The last quarter wasn't great except for 2 last minute goals from memory.

The Freo game was great for about a half and a bit but the grand final was the absolute complete performance you could ask for from the first moment to the last.

Totally agree with this.
The 1st half against Fremantle clearly showed what we were capable of.
The total domination over 4 quarters in a grand final no less, was putting it all together. Just an awesome display of fantastic football. You can't just beat that.

From memory the Dockers kicked 5 or 6 junk time goals in the last to make the scoreboard somewhat respectable.

We probably should have won that match by 15 goals...

Didn't we obliterate the Bombers by 160 points a chunk of years ago? Surely we had a good quarter then?

:)
I am thinking the exact same thing.
I can remember an MCG game where the bombers were maybe 70 odd points down at half time. I was at the game and can remember bomber supporters leaving before the main break.
Found it.
Round 20, 1992.
32.24 216 to 8.8 56.
The margin was 110 to 27 at half time.
We kicked 8 goals in each qtr.
Great day. My scum supporting mate left at half time.
I was at that game in 1992. Was probably the most even dominant display the team has ever put on. 8 goals in every quarter. 12 goals to Dunstall.
That game was my first visit to the MCG. I was there as my VicKick club was playing at half-time. There was only one other Hawthorn kid in our club, and all the others were pretty vocal about how Essendon were going to smash us. They soon got a reality check. A lot of them left as soon as our half-time game was over.

Dermott was out injured, and at some stage my Step-Dad saw him sitting in a row of reserved seats in the grandstand. A few of us were game enough to approach him with our Records, and he signed them for everyone who asked, though he didn't smile or say a word to any of us. Wish I'd kept the bloody thing.

For our VicKick game, they made our club wear the colours of the scum. I would have felt dirty if not for the cleansing effect of immediately putting on my Hawks gear as soon as it had finished. As for the result, it wasn't just the seniors that got steamrolled by the Brown and Gold onslaught. At least I laid three tackles on kids much bigger than me though.

I agree completely. I often re-watch just that quarter of football. After all the years of watching Geelong beat us (after the siren goal by Hawkins and the cross ground missed kick by Hodge particularly stick in my mind) and then thinking that they were going to do it to us again. The frustration of no matter how much better we were than Geelong we couldn't beat them. It was like the moment a kid who had been beat up by a bully for years finally realises he is now stronger than the bully and smashes them out of the park. So rewarding. Was a really significant moment in the development of the club and the players. Pure joy.

It was simply jaw dropping how good we were that first quarter. I possibly don't ever remember feeling so gobsmacked by a Hawthorn team - so that wins it for me.

Though that 13 goal quarter against North in 82 was pretty scary good too
