asics. I'm into my running and the last two shoes have been asics. Very long lasting and very comfortable, even with a callus present on one of my toes.

End of financial year or right after xmas are the best times to buy runners, as there are plenty of savings in sales to be had.:)

Or just order them from the UK.

I got Kayanos for $155 delivered. $290 retail in Aus.

No comparison.

Never wore them again after that.. pretty sure it was the shoes, they are good for wider feet, yes? I have narrow feet, so maybe that had something to do with it...

I prefer Asics, but New Balance are very good value - especially if you have narrow feet.
Which one is it? To the eye I always thought New Balance were for wider feet.

I just got a pair of Nike Air Free's after switching from an old pair of kayanos which i'd had for years.

Not much in the way of support, but very light and great to run in.

Ihave NB and my feet are pretty narrow, they've always been great.

Lol, looks like it's actually both.

Some info from their website:

Width Sizing / Shoe Sizing
Just like people, feet come in all different shapes. Because shoes that fit better perform better, New Balance knows that proper fit means multiple widths. New Balance is the only manufacturer to offer the majority of shoe models in multiple widths, from narrow (B) to extra-wide (4E).

I guess just in my experience- when I got given free NB shoes to wear (thru my work), I wasnt really given a choice with the size of the width. Seemed too wide for my foot and gave me horrible back pain. Never wore them again after that.

A thought from left field.

If your not training for the Olympics - try cheap K-Mart specials. Most running shoes are designed to produce a comfortable, efficient running style - but don't do anything good for your feet long-term. In fact there is evidence to suggest they make things worse.

They are designed for jogging - not running. And jogging is a stupid thing to do. You land on your heel.

Derek Clayton (Aus) set the world marathon record in 1968 that lasted for 15 years wearing Dunlop Volleys.

Ascics and New Balance are probs the top brands
i use mizunos and they are comfy as hell, not as good for me as the ascics, because i have pancake feet, but excellent trail/running shoes

Last pair of Nikes I had something cracked inside the shoe after 6 months and it made a creaking sound with every step. They were rather expensive so they've lost me as a customer.

Yeah I'll never be buying Nike again either. Got a fairly expensive pair of cross trainers from them a couple of years ago and they fell apart in 6 months.

I bought $50 Fila's from Harris Scarfe. The build quality is as good as any other, but they don't have springs or gels or bubbles inside. And I still paid too much for them.

The only difference between a K-Mart trainer and another branded $100 trainer is the profit margin. Same kind of machines in china are slapping them together using the same materials. The price of fashion.

Asics - I have a pair of Gel-Nimbus and they are the best ive had. Each to their own but for me they are more comfy than my last pair of Kayanos.

this.
used to manage a sports store several years ago and here's my rundown:

  • new balance - wide feet only or for those who want cross trainers
  • brooks - bloody hard to break in I found, a lot of customers used to come back in and say that they gave them shin splints and took ages to break in
  • adidas - very comfortably but not really built for support. having said that i have a pair of supernovas that haven't done too badly
  • saucony - love these, always been comfortable and you adapt to these very quickly. used to run my tri's in saucony
  • reebok - comfortable but not really a serious running shoe
  • asics - i've had 4 pairs of kayano's and 2 nimbus. the kayano's aren't too bad but my heels kill me after a 5k run, tend to be better for longer runs. the nimbus, more comfortable but probably better suited to a neutral instead of an overpronator. I'm not sure they are really worth the high price
  • Nike - i only run in nike free. looked at these when they first came out and thought what a piece of shit. got a free pair and found they were fantastic to run in. no leg or knee soreness at all after running long or short distances. i've bought 6 pairs since and have found all are great. nike definitely make the most comfortable shoe and occasionally have a couple of gem running shoes. the air pegasus has survived for over 20 years because it is considered a decent running shoe.
as above, horses for courses but for me i've found the nike free's are better for running in.

I used to run close to 10k a day, i bought a pair of filas from harris scarfe and they litrally lasted about 2 weeks as well as some pretty horrendus shin/knee pain. I switched to nike and the quality was good but i still had the pain.

I splashed out on a pair of Asics Kayanos, they were brilliant, they felt like slippers and all the pain that i would normally experiance was gone - i was devestated that i had them stolen out of the footy changeroom so bought another pair. 3 years on still going strong!

Hahahah thats exactly what I thought when I put on my first pair of Kayanos. Couldnt believe the cushioning, is soooo good. :thumbsu:

As for the prick who stole your runners, that is bad luck man. What an arseh*le, forking out another $250 for another pair would not be fun. :thumbsd:

going back a few years, i used to be a medium and long distance runner (state medalist etc) and my favourite brand were asics, I would train 4-5days a week and compete once a week and asics lasted a long time and were really coomfortable. Only brand i buy are asics

Wow, thank you for that Hoffy. Even with the exchange rate with the pound are they really that cheaper???

(not that i would pay $270 for them, would have hunted around for ones on sale at least).

Lol, i can go even cheaper than that tho, when I worked at a sports shop we would wear our shoes for 6 months or so and then just send them back to the manufacturer with a "fault"- and we would get a pair of free shoes no worries :D:thumbsu:)

I'm sure you could get past models somewhere.

I got mine from wiggle.co.uk

Right at the front page it has a spot you click if you're buying from Oz so it shows the converted prices etc.

They only have current models ($150au), I think there's free delivery?

Either way, scan the net for vouchers/coupon codes that can be used at checkout. You might be able to bring 'em down even more. :thumbsu:

Dam, Kayanos are $270. Dont have to buy a new pair right at this minute, but will need some in the not too distant future.

Hate the colour too, yuck red for women?!?!?!?! :thumbsd:

Wiggle.co.uk was aud 140 postage included
