Just not sure what website to buy them from. Most I find seem not to ship to Australia, or only do so with very expensive P&H.

I find the Shaver Shop is very expensive.
Mensbiz mate, fantastic service, very fast delivery.

And get Mitchells Woolfat (linked in my post above) when you need new soap, best I've used, easily, and gets rave reviews almost everywhere (except for a few people who have a reaction to lanolin).

Edit - where is Kerbby?

Been looking for a shaving alternative lately. Currently using those vibrating 5 blade Gillette razors (too expensive) and a L'Oreal sensitive skin shaving cream. Still get a pimple here and there, have fair skin and spend quite alot of time in the sun. All of these factors contribute to making shaving pretty irritating to the skin.

Was thinking about going for an electric setup but I've used one of those foil shavers in the past and I didn't like the feeling it left afterwards.

How many shaves do go though before changing the razor? Have a mate who swears by those disposable 3 blades you get in a bag of 15 - 20. He has quite abit of facial hair so it's not like he's dealing with fluff, might end up giving them a try.

Any particular place in Melbourne people would recommend for a barber style cut-throat shave? I've only ever had one and liked it. Preferably in the S/SE side of the city.

I use Gillette Pro Glide and Gillette sensitive gel. Works good for me.

I've found himage.com.au to be the best for price and service.

And from my experience the Shaver Shop stocks garbage, nothing I'd bother spending my money on.

+1 to himage. Only other place I use because they stock different brands is kineticblue.com.au. Started using Menzbiz but it annoyed me that it would only be deliver to my address by courier but also ordered some shampoo once from him to find that it had already been opened. For blades only i just go through ebay, few Aus sellers on there but even the international ones will offer free postage, never had a problem with them not being delivered. Personna Reds are probably my favourite but have discovered Silver Star which are pretty close and just recently bought 100 delivered for under $16.

King Of Shaves blade and gel.

I usually get a couple of months out of each blade but that said my skin is strong and I'm probably not as much of a wimp as some of you guys.

I find it impossible to razor shave each day. I get the burns/bumps/ingrowns whatever and it's irritating. -Does going to this double edged sword stuff really work to alleviate this?

I find now I alternate. Twice a week I'll razor shave, and the rest of the days I use an electric razor. I don't mind having a bit of stubble, it's fine by me but I don't want to look tacky.

How much of a $ outlay are you looking at to get into the proper blade shaving?

For me, massively. Cartridge razors are basically designed to stop you cutting yourself, so the blades are sunk back a long way into the cartridge. It encourages you to press the razor against the skin to get a close shave. That distorts your face, which means burns and bumps are much more common. The 'dry' shave you get with a foam or gel doesn't help with razor burn either.

A double edge is all about sliding over the top of the skin. Once I got a good technique with a double edge, those problems disappeared for me overnight.

Even if you don't switch to a double edged razor, I'd definitely recommend trying wet shaving with your normal cartridge razor (i.e. a good soap and brush, rather than a gel or foam). Even just making that change will give you a better shave.

You can spend as much or as little as you want. Blades are dirt cheap - you can get 100 for $15-20. Razors can be had for as little as $20. A good shaving soap will cost you $20-$30. The most expensive thing is the brush - a decent one will set you back probably a minimum of $80.

If you just want to try the process I would recommend getting a cheap synthetic brush at first. They're a bit nasty but they'll do the job initially - if you go long-term you can splurge on something better.

Can be a bit of a whack to the wallet at first but it doesn't take you long to make the money back on blades. At one blade a week I spend about $7.50 a year. If you change the cartridge on your Mach 3 once a week, you're probably spending upwards of $150.

I'm getting razor bumps as I can't ****ing work out which way way my bloody hair is going. People say shave upwards but that doesn't work. I honestly feel like each and every hair in my neck is going a different direction to the next one.

Persevere in finding out what way it grows. A lot of the time it will grow in different directions on different parts of your face, so you have to adjust.

Do you wet shave? If not, I recommend it. The hair is weaker when wet.

Another thing you could try is before shaving put a wet, warm towel over what you are going to shave, and leave it there for a couple of mins. That helps you get an easier shave.
