I think these two are a clear 1 and 2 over the rest, but I find it very hard to split them.

Other nominations will be accepted and then promptly discarded.

Man, you don't know how many pub blues
i have gotten into over these 2 genre defining hits.

If you play either backwards they say
"blrf flnt wny grsn"
and that means more to me than
"Paul is dead"

All i can say is close... very close.

Go West changed rock and roll forever. They are the Gods of Modern Music Forget everyone who came before them. These guys took rock music back to it's barest form and rebuilt it in a way that mere mortals could only dream of. So my vote goes to the King of Wishful Thinking.
Having said that there is no doubt that "St Elmos Fire" is up there in the top 5 of all time but is still steets away from "King of Wishful Thinking".

Go West just don't get the recognition they deserve. This song is clearly one of musics most defining moments - it has it all beautiful harmonies, progressive chord changes, a striking bass line, great drum and guitar solos. Yep a favourite and there is nothing better than seeing the band perform it live in front of a packed sweaty audience.

I think that you exagerrate "St Elmos Fire" - it is a wonderful song but I think it is only deserving of a top 10 spot in the annals of music history. You have clearly forgotten about Agadoos "Black Lace" and "I've Never Been to Me" by Charlene. These two songs clearly surpass "St. Elmos fire".

Go West caused a paradigm shift in Western popular culture and changed the world forever - however it did not have the epochal effect of Kajagoogoos "OO to be Ah" and "Too Shy"
