One of my absolute favs at the time... probably why I like Paps so much... Reminds me of The Schneiderman.

Just quietly in regard to Len Mortimer , the 1909 Swans Premiership was most probably a fixed game so maybe its not such a great achievement. Although the fix was in against Carlton so morally there is no problem.

Carlton beat South very comfortably by 22 points in the Preliminary Final. Had Carlton finished the regular season on top of the ladder, that result would have seen the Blues win four flags in a row. But we had finished on top, and under VFL rules at the time, we had the right to challenge Carlton for the Premiership if we lost in the Preliminary Final. South and Carlton had won the same number of games in 1909 but the Bloods had a slightly better percentage by about 3%. In one of the proudest moments in the history of the club we .exercised the challenge under the rule. Carlton started raging favourites having beaten us convincingly the week before. In addition they had three premierships on the trot behind them. But of course the hand of God in the form of John Wren intervened and against the odds we beat them by two points in one of the great turn arounds in football form thereby winning our first premiership. Carlton even in those days apparently was a dog of a club. They sacked their premiership winning coach mid season in 1909 and paid their players a pittance even for the day. Five years later Carlton was hit by another fixing scandal when three of their disgracefully underpaid players (one a champion) were disqualified for five years for throwing matches. Never been any good.

That's exactly why this doesn't work . There was a thread about 9 years ago which I might have started (guessing ) that gave a few good or great players for each number. Don't have time to go back that far. Always a good discussion point though.

A weekly Top 5 for a few numbers would be interesting.

    E.g. week 1 is number 14.

So in order: Skilts, Kels, Bird :p etc etc
