None of the taggers really stand out right now. In fact I think the quality has fallen off dramatically over the last few years. A couple of years ago, you had Ling (best tagger in a long time), Kirk and Sewell (doesn't tag anymore). Now you have the likes of Crowley who is probably the best right now but isn't even in the same league as the above. I think with all the systems and zones teams just don't see the same value with tags that they did previously. Its all about team defense now, not just one person being accountable for their man all the time.

Crowley is the best tagger in the comp without doubt. Can't stand the bloke but he's good.

Ie. Smith. Yes he does play on the Cyril/Milne/Betts/Ballantyne types, but against other teams that do not possess such dominant small forwards, he quite often takes a player that spends considerable time in the midfield, thus moving himself further up the ground and leaving the defensive role with Mattner.

Smith spends almost no time in the midfield. Don't think I've ever seen him in there. Takes the oppositions best small forward every week.

Didn't see much of Crowley apart from when we played Freo but on both occasions he did very well playing on Deledio which severely limited our poise and thrust going forward.
