Hungry Jacks, McDonalds, KFC, Red Rooster and Pizza Hut don't even qualify as food.

Lord of the Fries can go down well.

Go the sickly thick Belgian mayo :thumbsu:

On my recent trip to Melbourne in late April I ate from there once. I ordered the mini-burger (original style) thinking it would be something along the lines of a McDonalds cheese burger in terms of size, so when I got it and saw it was the size of one and a half flattened out golf balls I was a bit surprised :p Was tasty though :thumbsu: I think I went back there once more.

As for Hungry Jacks Spencer Street I ate there once and it didn't seem any different than your typical Hungry Jacks here in Perth... although it was about 2.00am so I probably wasn't really paying much attention.

A couple of places I would of liked to of visited (due to their mentionings on BigFooty) but I didn't go to due to forgetting their names were Urban Burger and Andrew's Burgers. When I go back to Melbourne (which unless someone else is going to pay for the trip probably won't be any time soon as now I've been I'd rather visit new places :p) I will have to try those places if they are still in business!

One place I can't neglect to mention is Coneheads in St Kilda. Now the chips were pretty crap (although chips are almost universally a crap food in my eyes, so my opinion on them might not be worth a lot), but I did enjoy the burgers :thumbsu: I must admit though the reason I went there quite a lot was less to do with the food than it was due to it being about 90 seconds walk from my hostel. Add this in my with my "I'm not cooking on holiday" rule I had given myself (laziness on my part, plus I didn't really want to experience the adventures of cooking in a crowded hostel kitchen again - at least not for a 10 day holiday when I had plenty to spend on eating out, but I'm getting off track now) and the fact I was too lazy to walk longer (sometimes left eating until the really, really hungry stage of hunger) meant I went there quite a lot in the last 5 days of my trip :p

Sounds about right. Haven't lived near there for about 2 years now, and I think I've been in once since, and at the time could barely put two words together.

Went into the HJ's on Chapel st today. Absolutely filthy. Went to sit down and the bench was just covered in ants. Went and told the manager and he just laughed and went "Yeah, that happens a bit". Health and safety regs be damned. Eventually found a table that wasn't either inhabited by ants or the homeless, by this point, one of the kids behind the counter came out and used a spray bottle of water and a cloth on it for about two minutes, and buggered off.

Good to see that despite the experience in that area, they're still none the wiser how to deal with it.

Ants ????? for christ's sake, HARDEN THE FU*K UP.

Maybe its the norm in Tasmania for insects to be crawling around restaurant tables but the rest of the nation has higher standards :p

not true. its just like any other part of australia, collingwood supporters will eat anything, off any surface they wish .............. they are collingwood supporters after all. :p;)

i had urban burger last night... was good, had the urban legend...

although I think the burger i had from burger inc. in geelong was better...

so you've tried every pizza shop in melbourne?

Anybody I know that's tried a Trevis has agreed. I'm old and had lots of different Pizza and Trevis wins always. I drive 3 suburbs over for a pickup. Trust me if you're anyway near pick one up. Italian family business, classic decor, footy on the TV.

Not sure if this goes under this takeaway thread, though the pies from Ferguson Plarre are absolutely top notch, I don't think people make quality pies much at all now...

Theres a pizza joint around the corner from me called Espresso. I love em. Me mates prefer Enzo's and Mario's on Keilor Road and swear by them every weekend we are on the piss at homee. Frankies on Epson Rd is a cracker too.

As a pie lover, any bakery with a pie for around $2.50 is fantastic feeding.

Poons in Footscray are a great chinese joint with great dimmies. Special mention to Wok Express in Moonee Ponds.

Fish n chips are the same to me so value comes into it and crunchieness of chips and potato cakes comes into it. The joint on Maribyrnong Rd near the Waterloo gets my vote.

Nando's and Grill'd would have to be my fave commercial outlets.

Nice little Italian restaurant in fairfield, make amazing Pizzas for delivery and takeaway, as well as being a full on Italian restaurant. They are over the railway line towards the city. cant remember the name.

For those in the Northern suburbs i'd recommend

Peking Inn ( chinese) in Bundoora, best chinese i've eaten.
Casa Bela (cafe dining) at Northland shopping centre, huge servings at a reasonable price.
Yarra ave fish & chips ( Reservior).
