Lack of Hodge is greatly disturbing.

Eagles arguably the best if you consider consistently being competitive over the 30 years of the AFL. Hawks were pretty ordinary for most of the 90s and early 00s. We also have the shortest longest drought, of 12 years (twice). Only WC and Hawthorn have won a flag in the 90s, 00s and 10s, although there was a 17 year gap between 1991 and 2008.

Actually just reviewing that team

E Betts is an imposter

Criticisms taken on board, had a bit of a revise. Agree 100% about Hodge, and Buckley should be in there as well. Just oversights on my part.

Looks good

Of that team think Roos and Richo only players never to play in a GF

You really don't need Richardson with Carey, Dunstal, Lockett plus I wouldnt have Richo anywhere near a team like this anyway. Judd is better than Matera and Cousins from WCE alone.

Fair comment.
The only rider I’d attach is that though they have made 2 more finals series than us in that time (and obviously won 1 more flag), they have also finished at the arse end of the ladder 4 times.
The cats haven’t finished bottom four in more than 32 years or something.

Lockett to FF Dunstall to FP.
B Cousins was more of a flanker/outside mid type. You really don't want him at the clearances. R Harvey, Gablett Jr or C Judd easily onfield at the bounce with Williams + Cox.
Cousins a wing or HFF or dropped.
Hird onfield to HFF, Rioli bench or dropped.

In: Riewoldt + Enright + Judd + Your choice of Milne/Daicos/Betts in FP.
Out: Richo Rioli Cousins Wanganeen

Hawks are actually the only team to win flags in the 60s, 70s, 80s as well as the 90s, 00s and 10s but whose counting ;)

They are also 2-0 against the Eagles in flags

Yes, Hawthorn's record since 1961 is certainly remarkable. In 1964 they had 1 flag, Melbourne 12. No one could've imagined they'd overtake Melbourne. But we're only talking AFL here...and yes, much to my chagrin lol.

Youd have been certified for predicting that

Probably a bit closer to a consensus team now. Added the second ruck on the bench.

Plenty of versatile key position players on the ground so Jarman, Harvey and Hodge can all do the rotations fwd, mid and back respectively. Enough multi position players (Hird, Roos, Buckley, Abletts) who can go anywhere on the ground.

Old thread bump, but the OP confuses "team" for "club". Stupid thread only gets one post from me calling it stupid.

Brisbane threepeat, or Essendon 2000, or Carlton 1995, or WCE 1994, or Geelong threepeat.

These are the best teams I've seen since the league changed it's name to AFL.

Speaking of stupid.. when did Geelong threepeat?
