MELBOURNE DEMONS! :)
hey,
i was wondering what you thought was the best thing your club has ever done. it can be anything at all.
i think that there are a few good things that melbourne has done in the last few years:
1) not merge with Hawthorn (i luv them but i wouldn't want to have a gold and red jumper)
2) Gutnick (pretty obvious dont u think?!)
3) move their administration back to the G (only been done recently but i think its really good coz now it will be open on match days!)
4) recrute so many talents in 99 and obviously recrute ROBBO! lol
anyway what do u think??

you might not like it... but i really don't care!
GO THE MIGHTY DEMONS!!! :)

The most crucial thing that Richmond have done was to move their home games to the MCG in 1966 (?). This - coupled with our era of success - gave us the scope to grow to the size we are today, which goes a fair way to ensuring our loong term viability.

From a Bears point of view, the best thing the club ever did was move to the Gabba from Carrara.

As for the Brissie Lions, they are working towards many things year in and year out that will have lasting effects. The fostering of a 'sense of community' within Brisbane itself is very important, and they are making an effort to do that. Creating a community that will lead them into the future, and secure their position within the competition is of utmost importance. As a fairly new club, I think they are doing ok in that department.

Tho some of their marketing ideas are a bit off the wall. Apparently yesterday they hired a plane that flew over Brisbane for 90mins towing a banner that said "Merry Christmas Brisbane from the Lions". I didn't see it. Probably happened while I was having a few ales in the Social Club.

Best thing ever done was getting rid of a dis-interested Malthouse. And because things usually come in pairs, to top of the worst thing ever done they got Ken Judge instead.........

Everyone nows the doggies worst move (getting cocky at 1/2 time in the '97 prelim.

But the best thing was probably moving to Colonial and not merging with Fitzroy. That just proves what a difference the half hearted supporters can do.

The best thing Port Adelaide has ever done is

Win 37 premierships in the SANFL and therefore being granted a licence to play in the AFL.

Its great to support a club that has pissed off all those SANFL supporters since 1870, soon enough we will be pissing off all those other AFL sides.

The hilarious thing is that you Port fans really do believe your own over-hyped press. You have a long way to go before you start pissing off opposition fans like the followers of Carlton, Collingwood, and Richmond do. On this score (among many others too, come to think of it), you're just babies in the woods......

Signing Kevin Sheedy was a huge move in the history of the club. It ensured our viability in the modern era, because he took a heavly supported (but struggling on-field) team and turned them into a powerhouse. Now, the Essendon club is the leader on and off the field, and KS has a lot to do with that.

I often think, what would have hapened IF Sheeds had gone to Tigerland in 1981 instead of Essendon. Would Richmond have been just as successful as Essendon? You'd have to presume so.

I also think our move away from Windy Hill was a good one, because it gave the opportunity for our large supporter base to show their numbers which they did as soon as we moved in 1992.

Your closing signature should be "Port Adelaide - waiting - forever" he he

Oh and I should have added: the best thing the Crows have done is winning back-to-back premierships just to shut up those Swampies down the road....they really thought they'd win a premiership before us.

Dan,

I would argue that Essendon are a leader off field, not the leader as you suggest. I also consider West Coast, Adelaide, Brisbane Sydney and North Melbourne in this class.

In fact, North get a double nod because they have been able to achieve more with only a fraction of the resources of the other clubs.

I believe that Sheedy has survived as Essendon coach for so long because of his own rat cunning rather than any inspired management on your clubs behalf.

Then again, the victors always get to rewrite history.!

I'm not sure that Richmond and Sheedy would have made as happy a couple. Too ruthless (read weak! look at my Indictment post on the Richmond board for a further explanation) for our own good - we would have sacked him after 2 years. Then he would have probably gone to Essendon and coached for 18 years!

i would have to say the best things that the hawks have done would be....

- not merge with melbourne - no offence to dee fans but they would obviously agree that both clubs are viable on their own and this has kept both traditions alive....
- change our name from the mayblooms to the mighty hawks.... still couldnt imagine yelling out carn the mayblooms... i'm sure that would send fear into all the opposition sides...
- getting john kennedy...even though it was way before my time he coached our first premiership and is a legend of the club....
- and recently finally recruiting fresh blood into the club in the form of hay, croad, dixon, etc etc... instead of recruiting hasbeens from other clubs to fill holes for one or two years... which means we finally might now have some success....

Signing Johnny Longmire from under Sydney's nose... for bugger all...

and to a lesser extent....
moving home games to the MCG...
playing Friday night games...
D. Pagan...
having an innovative committee for the last 30 years...

North Melbourne will be Premiers in 2001

Traded Matthew Francis, Rob Scheaffer and Brad Smith to Collingwood.
