Opinion Best under 23yr Team

It works out sometimes. The tigers team posted above in 2012 has much of the core of the 17/19/20 Richmond teams.

Most clubs can make the case they have a good collection of young players. Suns and swans look handy going forward.

And even then only 10 of them really made it, out of 20+.

That is a phenomenal strike rate, and includes having one of the GOATs plus maybe 3 HoF tier players (although the standard these days could mean 4 or 5).

Most clubs aiming for 1 flag would be happy to have 8-10 come through from their current crop. 3 flags relies on 4 or 5 becoming top 50 with a few in the top 20.

FOLL: J. Roughead - T. Liberatore - L. Dahlhaus

INT: M. Wallis - B. Stack - A. Cordy - M. Panos

Bold are the only players I can see set in out 22 next year. List includes Panos (0 games), Schofeild, Cordy, Tutt and Howard with only a few games each.
This team is quite worrying tbh...
Easton Wood, Jordan Roughead, Tom Liberatore, Luke Dahlhaus. Only 4 players from this side to feature in the 2016 flag. So many of the blokes that day were either veterans (Murphy, Boyd, Picken) or <22 years old (Daniel, Bont, Boyd, Macrae, Hunter, Dunkley, McLean, Stringer). A ton of these were moved on before the start of 2016. Practically a miracle we were even remotely competitive considering how few lasted from this crop

Thread says under 23 and you include 4 players who are 23 ?

Using 1997 as the cut off we may not have a lot of depth in the 23 and under age group but we do have some elite talent

Weideman - is a solid AFL player who could break out but would want to do it soon
Oliver - Absolute elite player of the comp
Petty - serviceable depth KPD who is getting a run at it this year
Spargo - never going to be a star but his forward pressure is immense and is a best 22 player
Chandler - just starting to break into the team. Has potential
Bedford - Highly regarded just needs to establish himself at AFL level
Sparrow - Highly regarded, issue maybe his similarity to players already oin the team
Jordan - Played every game this year and doesn't look out of place at AFL level
Pickett - Jet
Rivers - Very good player who gets over looked as he was drafted with Jackson & Pickett
Jackson - Looks every bit a future star. Highly important player already
Bowey (pick 21 in 2000)
Laurie (pick 22 in 2000)

I left a couple out that imo will be gone bfore long

So we have oliver who is an elite star of the comp already. Pickett and Jackson who look like reaching that level. Then Rivers & Jordan who look like long term quality AFL players. With a few role players and potential in there
