This poll asks who was the best utility of the modern era of the players listed (which is different to asking who was the best player of those listed).

Some points to help you make an informed choice:

as a defender: Kouta and Hird floated across half back to take timely marks when playing on ball, but never played there consistently. Goodes did little in the back half. Pav a great attacking CHB. Baker can lock down gun small forwards while setting up attack of HB
Votes: Baker 5, Pav 4, Hird 3, Kouta 2, Goodes 1

as a forward: Pav a gun power forward, Hird and Kouta equally as good in the air and with the ball in the deck in the front half, Goodes a key forward who could mark, run and get teammates involved, Baker elite timing at the front of packs and elite foot skills to hit tricky targets and kick goals.
Votes: Pav 5, Hird 4, Kouta 3, Goodes 2, Baker 1

as a mid: Pav had a good season as a Patrick Cripps precursor with better foot skills, Goodes as good a ruck rover as he was good as a ruck (which was quite good), Kouta could dominate clearances or completely control a wing, but it’s Baker who averages 33 touches and 8 clearances playing as a match winning mid.
Votes: Baker 5, Kouta 4, Hird 3, Goodes 2, Pav 1

Total votes: Baker 11, Pav 10, Hird 10, Kouta 9, Goodes 5.

Looking forward to hearing all BF’s reasons why Baker is the correct answer for best utility of the modern era!

Hird literally won a club best and fairest playing at HB

Ok but Pav was an AA full back, and the eye test tells us Baker is the best pure backman, so Hird’s ranking of 3 votes as a back still stands

Hard to go past Baker IMO. Dominated the Giants’ star studded midfield. Showed that he’s an elite small forward against the Dogs when he singlehandedly brought us back into the game. His defensive credentials are already well known. Top ten player in the comp.
