Anyone see the Francesca Schiavone vs Svetlana Kuznetiva match last night. They had it on Foxtel. I only saw the last set, but saw some of the most scintillating tennis ever.
For a while, neither woman could break each other's serve. Suddenly, Schiavone broke Kuznetziva, and all she had to do was sever for the match. Svetlana then broke her game, bringing it back to level pegging. Schiavone broke her again, and had to keep her serve to win. Again, Kutznetziva (I apologize if the spelling is wrong) broke back. No matter what one threw at the other, she would counter it.
It even looked like Schiavone had an injury, and spent a bit of time with the doctor. However, she recovered and continued the epic. Finally, Schiavone broke serve again, but next time won on her own serve, winning the match 6-4, 1-6, 16-14.
It wasn't just the closeness of the score, but I saw some great rallies as well. You don't rallies like this from the women very often, where one player would lose simply because the ball hit the line and went out, where they ran and couldn't get it in time.
These women showed up some of the other women's players, especially those who lost after one hour (e.g. 6-0,6-0).
I was wishing this would happen in a Women's Final. I can't think of one Women's Final which was close to being as epic as this match. Why can't more woman produce a match like this when it counts most.
One for the archives, I say. EPIC!!!!
Thoughs?
