On our list who are the best and worst kicks in the club? Which players would you rate as great, good or iffy?

It seemed on Saturday that an area where we were considered to have improved was in fact a major weakness. I noticed at the first St Kilda game which was the worst game of football that I have seen that many of our players took the easy kicking option almost every time rather than go for the play maker type kick that would create opportunities and break the opposition apart.

Agree with Hodge...... great. Williams ..... great. Crawf still good.
Mitchell is iffy. Bateman iffy. Guera iffy.
Young... Good because he raises his eyes.
Smith, Jacobs go backwards not attacking kicks.
Birchell..... Good but takes easy options.
Roughead..........Who knows?
Franklin..........on the run brilliant. Set shot depends on how he got out of bed.

Words cannot describe how stupid you are. Ladson is one of the best 6 kicks in our side and is a better kick than Sewell.

Best: Hodge
Worst: Croad

Most overrated: Young

lol.. I agree with you! When Croad has the ball in defence I get nervous! Hodge, Ladson and CRAWF are the best kicks in out team.

Best - Sewell
Worst - Ladson

Not Sewell, god love him. He's not the worst, but is a bit of an up and under type kick. He isn't a lace outer.

Best - consistently accurate - Mitchell & Birchall
Best - goal kicking - Willo & Boiler (Dicko in a past life)
Best - ripping bullets - Hodge & Crawf (but both scrub/shank quite a few also)

Worst - make you nervous - Croady

Seems that a few of our guys have to work on their kicking... am sure it will get better the more they work with that AIS coach who Clarko brought to the club! :thumbsu::thumbsu:

I'm pretty sure Vanders was the only player in our team to kick a goal from a set shot on the weekend.

True that he was!But that was just one game,IMO I believe vanders is fairly good set shot! But set shots for him are few and far between!Generally his field kicking, {just from observations}he seems to be below average and TENDS to butcher the ball on a regular basis!either that or he picks the wrong option IMHO!There are probably worse kicks going around, but for mine vanders stands out as a pretty ordinary kick of the ball!:thumbsd:

Worst set shots - All bar Willo and Boyle. Would have said dicko a couple of years ago.
Hodge and Young are beautiful kicks, but have consistently dissappointed this year.
Birchall generally hits his targets, along with Ladson and Gu (when not going sideways and backwards)
Mitch is good. Lewis is good.

Generally speaking though it is a major problem that has cost us dearly on more than one occasion this year. I also firmly believe that it has become an even bigger problem mentally and as such many players often miss it before they even kick it.

Bateman can be terrible at times. Often going too fast, especially when on left.
Croad- nuff said.

Best - Hodge

Worst - Gilham

Gilly is an interesting one and has confused me lately. Earlier in the season (when we were flying) I thought he was one of our best, and certainly for a fullback his field kicking was excellent. The last two weeks though - holy crap!

Best by a street is Mitchell. Worst I tend to agree is Trent.

Buddy also has kicking troubles! He's either kicking them straight through the middle, which only happens in patches or kicks them wayward! And rarely hits a target when entering 50, albeit it doesnt happen often!

Guerra (laser and our most precise kick)
Hodge (power daisy cutter action but can clang the shit out of it sometimes)
Birchall (easy options, can miss a target)
Ladson (sometimes to lackadaisical but has a good style and it spins nicely)
Smith (erratic but can spot up well)
Mclgynn (Good field kick)
Williams (Laser in front of goal)
Jacobs (is a fair dinkum caveman but can hit a target)
Lewis (good, not enough punch, bit erratic)
Young (50% helicopters)
Brown (not a very good style but generally does ok)
Bateman (can leave it short)
Buddy (natural fade)
Gilham (can choose wrong option but is pretty good)
Crawf (a good kick but can fluff it)
Vanders (not the best)
Clarke (could go anywhere within a 20 metre radius)
Croad (The Sandbag king)
Roughie (Could go anywhere within a 50 metre radius)
Boyle (delightful)
Mitch (Improved, can leave it short)

Improved
Taylor
Osborne
Sewell

Bateman used to be the worst but I think he's been better recently, not a big fan of Birchall's little dinky kicks. Best are Hodge, Williams and Boyle.

Gilham use to be the most reliable kick, but ever since he's become more attacking, he doesnt seem to read the game well enough up field and execute his kicks.

have to agree... up until a few weeks ago i thought Gilham would be close to most efficient.. uses it well getting it out of D50 but is another story up the ground..

could it be that when closer to goal he is more concerned about clearing D50 and hits the first option well, but once up the ground tries to create an attacking move and uncertainties surface in his decision making putting him off the basics?
