Analysis Best Young Key-Forward in the Competition

He's fallen off ever since Treacy became the main man. Might be something in that.

Jye is struggling but he'll get through it, the schadenfreude from oppo fans comes across as poorly disguised jealousy that Freo have two of the best young KPF's in the game.

Just needs to play his role. Everyone always shits on the #2 forward, but the reality is the #1 guy can't dominate if the #2 guy doesn't play his role and open space, take a key defender and play selflessly.

He’s kicked more goals this year than your Captain who you expect to get pick 2 for.
Allen has been the eagles worst KPF this season and shouldn’t be getting a game, I would expect to get band one as clubs pay a premium for not having to spend assets in a trade. I don’t believe he’s worth anywhere near that high a pick.

Has Amiss been a top 30 young key forward in the comp based on his season?

If not, why is he even being discussed in this thread?

Under the age of 25? Definitely (30's a big number). Not saying he's having a great time of it currently (for whatever reason), and isn't anywhere near the guys we're discissing currently, but his first couple of full seasons put him up there with some pretty distinguished company, so I get why he was part of the chat.

Maybe just sneaks in as a top 30 forward under 25 this year.
Thilthorpe
Curtin
Morris
Caddy
Jones
Treacy
Voss
Neale
Walter
Read
King
Cadman
Van Rooyen
Larkey
Georgiades
Lord
Amstrong
Blight
Sharman
Reid
Williams
Darcy

All shown more this season, and there’s some very average players in there that 100% don’t belong anywhere near this conversation.

Given the post started a the beginning of the year, I'd have thought the last few years hold some weight. He's also kicked more goals than 2/3 of that list this year (admittedly 4 came against a WAFL defense - but you can only play what you're up against). Again, not saying he's in the upper echelons of this conversation, but he's significantly better than a lot on that list.

He averages less sc than every single person on that list, he was also poor last year.

One very good season two years ago does not mean he should be anywhere near this thread.

If SC is Super Coach, that's the bit where you lose me. Joke of a metric. As for Amiss being poor last year? He was so poor that only Ben King, Georgiades, Larkey, Treacy and Darcy off that list kicked more than him (McDonald too).

The majority of the list are younger or barely played. You aren’t concerned by his regression?
His accuracy? Absolutely. General play, a little, but I think it's overblown. There are some valid reasons for some drop off (significantly less targets now Treacy has become top dog the main one), but his general forward craft is still top notch (even if he's started to wrestle a bit more he's still leading well) as part of a functioning forward line. If he had even 20% of his leads honored his stat line would look very different.

“Our first tall is too good for him to get more than two disposals” sounds like some pretty massive cope. The much maligned Jack Darling went pretty well behind one of the games great key forwards.

Darling was a great number 2, would be happy if Amiss goes as well. Not sure what I'm coping about exactly; it's objectively true that Treacy has been targeted significantly more than Amiss and I've already said his accuracy issues/yips are a concern (directly impacts confidence, which can impact play also), but he's still doing all the things he needs to do for the forward line to function. His strength is as a lead up forward, he got hit on the lead once today, and he marked. ****ed the kick, but got in the right spot. The rest of the time he cleared space, tackled (should have been htb more or less in front), halved contests and made sure someone had to be on him. Personally I think he needs to get some touch up the field - his skills are great for a tall (see his pick up at the end) so not like we'd lose any creativity. I'm backing him in to have a better season than most on that list.

Hahahaha, “he cleared space, tackled (once), halved contests and made sure he had a man on him”

Surely you see the remarkably low bar you’ve set for him, he had an all time bad game against vfl standard team.

He’s been remarkably poor this year and when you have 2 disposals and a tackle it comes down to being an effort problem as well as a talent one.

Should be dropped.

Again, acknowledged he's not in great form, disagree on dropping and assessment relevant to Freo, particularly regards effort (Bulldogs game a testament to that). Think working through is the better option. That may change in the future, but way too early to be calling it now.

I must be the only one thinking Morris is over rated. To short to be truly dominant and should be compared to Ollie Henry as a medium forward. Darcy is number 1 and its not even close

Morris overrated? He's averaging over 2+ goals a game in his second year, has a very good contested mark and has a very high football IQ. He is not your 200 cm KPF, but at 193 cm, is very capable of playing as the second tall. Nobody - not even Lions fans - re saying he's better than Darcy.

But overrated he is not.

He does exactly what you want a KPF to do. Crashes packs, takes contested grabs and kicks goals.

What's not to like?
