I think Kennedy is going to be a excellent player, I think West Coast has a much more even spread of Talls and Mids, with excellent rucks. if Darling can come in and be the Full Forward while Kennedy at CHF that would be something to look forward to i would think. I know sweet F all about Wilson.
solid

I'd call Wilson exactly that: solid. Not an A-grade forward by any stretch of the imagination but ticks all the right boxes to play full forward, similar to Lynch in '06.

If Darling can fulfill his potential at FF then I'd say we have an above average spine, but that's a long way down the track and not at all a certainty. I guess the same could be said of Shuey in the middle, injuries permitting he'll be a gun IMO, but until he can actually string some games together it's pointless getting my hopes up as he seems to be very injury prone.

only 67 games and this is the most games played by a player in your spine, they can only get better. get your hopes up about Gaff, he is a gun

Hurley, Gumbleton, Melksham, Hooker, Pears

Hurley plays defence much more than he does forward, so a more accurate spine surely is:

Neagle, Gumbleton, Melksham, Hooker, Pears

Melbournes:

Jurrah, Watts, Scully, Garland, Frawley

I know what I would rather.

Yes that makes sense.... because he plays more time in defense last year as a KPB we should then remove Hurley entirely from the spine and replace the full-forward position with neagle who was delisted and re rookied  logic is flawless :thumbsu:

P.S Hurley player more time as full forward for dons main list last year than Neagle :o

Woops, I meant to put Hurley in instead of Hooker.

I love the fact you had to take out Ryder and Hurley to make Melbournes look better.
Thatz funny s#it. poor Demons, what have they been doing with all there draft picks.
something just as funny, Scully could be Gawnnnnnnnnnnn!

Ryder was never in there, so how did I remove him?

Meant to include Hurley instead of Hooker, an error on my part.

Still - Neagle, Gumbleton, Melksham, Hurley, Pears

v

Jurrah, Watts, Scully, Garland, Frawley.

The only funny thing is that your spine is the only thing that Essendon can hang their hat on, whilst Melbourne has an equally good (or better) spine but you wouldn't say it's near the most impressive part of our list. :D:thumbsu:

Re Scully: There is absolutely no chance Scully will go to GWS. If you knew anything about his character it's obvious he will be a one club player. As he said, he's letting his management sort out the contract stuff whilst he focuses on footy. His management knows that waiting til the end of this year will benefit Scully financially, as he will be commanding much larger coin after what i'm guessing will be a great 2011.

As Jay Clark said on twitter: Tom Scully could be the top endurance athlete in the comp next season. Already best distance runner at Melb. Amazing for a 2nd year player.

@brendanflight No way Scully joins GWS. Reminds me a lot of @joelselwood14 as a draftee. Very classy, mature. Gut feel is Dee for life.

I just get the feeling Scully will be one of the best players in the competition very soon.

Neagle, Gumbleton, Melksham, Hurley, Pears

Jurrah, Watts, Scully, Garland, Frawley.

Unbiased opinion

Jurrah vs Neagle - Jurrah
Gumbleton vs Watts - Line ball
Melksham vs Scully- Scully
Hurley vs Garland - Hurley
Pears vs Frawley - Probably Frawley, but not much in it. Like a bees dick in it

this will be our spine in 2011

Pears
Hooker
Hille / Ryder
Gumbleton
Hurley

Carlisle and Daniher will have plenty of time to develop.
and you say Melbourne has an equally good (or better).

Put Pears as CHB and move Hurley to CHF and that would be just about right.

Hansen is comfortably a better footballer than Pears and a better mark than Hurley.

Hansen and Hurley can be interchanged through the CHF/CHB roles.

No club has a complete top "young" spine.

The comparisons are all interesting and I like the look of Melbournes. What I think (hope) sets Essendon apart is the depth coming through. After going Pears, Hooker, Melksham, Gumbleton and Hurley you can add Ryder, Carlisle, Neagle and two Danihers. While I am not sure Neagle will make it, I think Darcy will and Carlisle looks great. And then there is our latest (in a string of) great hope Joe Daniher who seems to be rated the best young KPP in the country.

Yeah but you put Hurley to FF then bring in the person who actually played CHB for most the year Hooker.

Hurley Vs Jurrah - Very close but Jurrah isnt a genuine KP so Hurley imo.
Gumbleton Vs Watts - agree with you here
Melksham Vs Scully - " " but using the centerman is outdated in these best spine arguments.
Hooker Vs Garland - Line ball but I think garland is best suited to a third tall
Pears Vs Frawley - Frawley. although Frawley has 2 years of development ahead of Pears.

So its very close so melbourne should probably be included in the best spine arguments.

I woukd take ours if it's purely for 2011 as all our players have shown at least something at AFL level. Adelaide's has more potential than ours however and could overtake it in a few years time.

Essendon's isn't that good imo. There must be big question marks on Gumbleton's body allowing him to play consistent AFL footy, Melksham still needs to prove himself and I don't rate Hooker.

i would agree, except probably more than 'a bees dick' in between AA frawley and pears, i mean sure he was good in 09, but not THAT good

It's time to end this argument.

Here's the best young spine:

Frawley
Hurley
Martin
Hansen
Reiwoldt

End of story.

Yeah because Hansen is a better player than the best Key Position player in the game in Lance Franklin and all
