Agreed. It should be under 22 at the end of the year. If 22 year olds are included it would be an under 23 list.

Day and Worpel would be our 2. Not sure they'd make the 22 but would be close.

On a slight tangent, you've really gotta feel sorry for some of these young blokes sometimes. Case in point: just a few weeks after Garry Lyon (yeah I know, I should just ignore the dimwit, but it came on as my alarm) re-ranked his 2018 draft and put Izak Rankine at No.1 on the basis one match, virtually announcing him as the future of football, Lyon has got stuck into Rankine suggesting he now "was a young kid getting ahead of himself a bit".

Even last night Rankine is making silly mistakes you expect of a young player in his 2nd year (but only his first playing) but David King was ripping absolute shreds off of him. I think people expect so much more of young players than they did 10 years ago.

Young players develop at different times obviously and are inconsistent normally in their first few years. The media the first to laud them and the first to bring them down. Naughton is a great example, could be anything. A bit like Cameron when he first started like a house on fire and then took a few years to find that again. Even the young guns like Walsh and Smith have been up and down this year, while others like Stack who started so well last year have been missing all year, (bobbed his head up of late). The media who are nearly all established players should know better than anyone how hard it is, and should be more measured. Seriously dumb some of them.

I think Darcy and Allen both make it, as a ruck and ruck/forward.

Based on 2020 alone, Naughton and McKay miss out due to games alone. Rankine misses too. Zurhaar has been quieter. Powell-Pepper has been a very good defensive forward but I'm not picking a forward who has kicked only 5 goals, you still have to be dangerous offensively. Miers, Butters and Ainsworth aren't lazy defenders either so don't need a specialist defensive forward.
Miers, Butters, Daicos and Ainsworth the best of the small forwards.

Defensively I say it comes down to 2 of Baker v Clark v Bowes.
Weitering and Balta the best key defenders. Ridley, Coffield the 2 best medium defenders. Lukiosus the best rebounding defender (=6th in the league). The 3rd of the first 3 mentioned is going to be desperately unlucky. I ended up going Bowes due to his intercepts and disposal stats, and Clark in a coin toss over Baker. For balance reasons I started Lukiosus on the bench

So far the team is
B: Bowes, Weitering, Coffield
HB: Ridley, Balta, Clark

HF: Butters, B.King, Daicos
F: Miers, M.King, Ainsworth
Foll: Darcy
Bench: Lukiosus, Allen

Midfield is the hardest. 7 of Bolton, Walsh, Simpkin, Berry, Worpel, Perryman, McCluggage, Smith, Brayshaw and McGrath only... That's already saying no to Bailey (good year but behind Bolton for that attacking mid role), Cerra (behind Brayshaw, McGrath for that inside role), and a great combo of Serong/Anderson/Rowbottom who are all good in their own right but aren't quite the same.

I have taken out Worpel (ok year but will miss last few games) and Berry (good year but will miss last few games). Came down to Berry v McGrath and then when McGrath got in for disposals and tackles and clearances, it meant I chose Perryman over Simpkin to go on the wing (go Berry over McGrath, I'd pick Simpkin). Taranto not enough games picking this as a 2020 team only.

B: Bowes, Weitering, Coffield
HB: Ridley, Balta, Clark
C: McCluggage, Walsh, Perryman
HF: Butters, B.King, Daicos
F: Miers, M.King, Ainsworth
Foll: Darcy, B.Smith, Brayshaw

Fairly happy with that side. Sure Rankine, Anderson, Naughton, McKay and Taranto probably make it but based on 2020 alone I think it's a fair enough team. McKay definitely has played enough games that 2 pearlers to end the year get him in but not enough when he hasn't been outstanding compared to the more regular King brothers.

If Simpkin had played a great game today v Freo I'd have gone Simpkin bench, Bolton wing, Perryman out but so far not there.

Indeed.

Everyone said Weitering was a bust in 2018 because he spent some time in the VFL after losing some form and confidence (in a ******* shite team).

2 years later and he’s probably going to be AA.

I agree they both should have been in, I had Bolton on the bench.

Mcgrath still the first one picked though and he not being in peoples teams was an embarrassment.
