Other BeTheCoach Basketball - USC Career Cut Short pg. 1

Alright, a few things before I get started.

I'll be using a college basketball coach simulator called BeTheCoach Basketball - you can find it at http://www.bethecoachbasketball.com/index.cfm

Basically the premise of this is that I'll be trying to recruit the best HS basketball players to build a team with the eventual goal of winning the NCAA tournament. The system treats every player as if they are going to play the full 4 years of college basketball, so no one-and-dones or anything like that.

Anything else I've missed I will probably cover along the way.

Trojans appoint largely unknown coach to take over basketball team

DAILY CALIFORNIAN

In a shocking turn of events, the USC Trojans have appointed JT_the_Man as their new head basketball coach. Following the scandals that have rocked the school in the last 12 months, the Trojans have elected to start fresh across the board, but few would have thought that that would mean turning to a man who has never coached in college basketball.

"I'm happy to be here," said JT_the_Man, "We're looking to put the last 12 months behind us and focus on what's important - getting out on the court and playing basketball."

With the shape of the current Trojans roster, it is clear that JT_the_Man has his work cut out for him before the PAC-10 season commences.

Trojans to focus on recruiting youth - will not go after transferring juniors

LA TIMES

JT_the_Man has today stated that the Trojans will not be pursuing junior Jack Lang, or any other juniors for that matter.

The Trojans had been linked to Lang earlier this week before JT_the_Man dismissed claims this morning, "We will only be targeting freshman," "To rebuild this program we will need players who are in it for the long haul."

With this statement we can only assume that the Trojans board have full faith in JT_the_Man and are not worried about results for the immediate future.

Tucker, Virden, Meely all on Trojans radar

LA TIMES

USC head coach JT_the_Man has today confirmed that scholarships have been offered to Bo Tucker, Marshall Virden and Kyle Meely.

"They fit the mould," said JT_the_Man, "They know what I can offer them; now it's up to them to make a decision."

With most top recruits already taken, JT_the_Man will have too move fast and ensure that he can get these three signatures.

Trojans nab Meely; Tucker and Virden headed elsewhere

LA TIMES

In what has been a tough transition into the life of being a college basketball coach for JT_the_Man, he states that he is "focusing on the positives" following news that both Bo Tucker and Marshall Virden have rejected USC's offer.

"We got one out of three, which is great," stated JT_the_Man "but now it's time for us too look forward to the start of the season, and ensure that we are ready to play."

JT_the_Man will certainly have his work cut out for him there, with the Trojans shaping up as one of the weaker teams in the PAC-10.

Halfway Review

Overall I'm not too surprised about where we are at the halfway point. Our side is really, really bad and I knew that going in. Beating Oregon was a good confidence booster heading into the break. An area of concern has too be our ability to score - we haven't scored more than 72 points all season. Our defence is actually pretty solid - we haven't conceded 100 points all season.

Hopefully it doesn't fall apart (yes, I'm worried it could get worse) in the second half of the season.

Ok, so I lost the save which is a real bummer. Can still do a season wrap up as I have a screenshot, and sort of just make it so I got fired. :p

Actually kind of surprised I lost it... Had a St. John's save that I only lost because I accidentally closed the tab.

Board Review

No postseason for USC. The Booster Club is perturbed. We are going to have to let you go.*

*I wasn't actually fired, I just swapped that bit in there

Ok so with the loss of that save, I have both my initial St. John's save (slight hole in terms of screenshots, especially in the first season; should be able to patch it up to a point based off memory (won't have any player progression or a complete roster in first season)) which spans over 16 seasons, and an ongoing LSU save where I'm about 18 seasons in to document.

IMG_4810.PNG

Season 1

There's no screenshots for season 1, so I'm going to give an overview of what happened.

I was given a very solid starting roster to work with. The most notable player was easily freshman Talvin Graves, who was already an All-Conference player. I recruited another freshman in Jimmy Bagley, who would partner up with Graves for the next 4 years. I also recruited a solid junior in Dyron Pippen, to join a solid supporting cast made up of freshmen Roylee Bullard and Jimmy Binion, and juniors McKinley Fox and Fred Terry. (Don't remember the name of the senior on the roster; doesn't really matter because he'll be gone next year anyway)

I recall us being 4th or 5th in the preseason rankings, but when the season started none of that mattered. It was a very tight division and we ended up finishing equal 1st with Providence (11-3).

We were named as the 45th seed in the tournament, and managed an upset victory in the first round before exiting in the second round.

I got a one-year extension, leaving two years on my contract.

IMG_4810.PNG

Offseason

Following a stellar first season, I looked to improve the roster through a star class of incoming HS graduates. I recruited top players in Myron Mahorn (All-Conference) and Kent Scales, who would provide an immediate impact to the team. Talvin Graves has improved to an All-American standard, and Jimmy Bagley is up to an All-Conference standard. We had 7 returning players, meaning one would need to be cut. Sorry Fred Terry.

Roster

McKinley Fox - Senior - 5 - 6 - 6 - 9 - 6.50
Roylee Bullard - Sophomore - 8 - 3 - 8 - 7 - 6.50
Talvin Graves - Sophomore - 8 - 9 - 8 - 8 - 8.25 (All-American)
Jimmy Binion - Sophomore - 7 - 7 - 8 - 4 - 6.50
Dyron Pippen - Senior - 6 - 8 - 4 - 9 - 6.75
Jimmy Bagley - Sophomore - 8 - 9 - 4 - 10 - 7.75 (All-Conference)
Myron Mahorn - Freshman - 9 - 5 - 7 - 9 - 7.50 (All-Conference)
Kent Scales - Freshman - 7 - 9 - 6 - 6 - 7.00

With the exception of Fox and Pippen, the rest of the roster had at least two years left to play following this season, which was an exciting prospect. We were ranked 1st in the Big East preseason rankings.

Had a go at this while was watching the cricket, as Maine, didn't start with all freshmen though, ended up winning NCAA tournament in about 10th season, not a bad little time killer, was gonna keep it going but accidentally closed the browser

About 12 seasons in on this one, apart from early on making the final, cant get past sweet 16 lately but have a fairly decent youthful looking team to make a run in next few seasons

That's a good side, you've got a good shot at it in the upcoming season. If you can get replacements for McCarter and Norman to go alongside Kilpatrick you'll be in it for the next 4-5 years. Have you had a player of the year yet? Kilpatrick has a good chance of being one.

Feel free to keep posting here, it's good to see other stories.
