Yeah Arch, I wrote it.

I read the Dixon thread that was on there and it way way overstepped the line. You can call someone a shit player and such but when you start getting into the sexual preferences and young Dixon being labelled a 'male ****' etc and other such crap. You can see where his management is coming from with their action against the club.

I guess it's a question of balance between freedom of speech and privacy.

A question which probably has no definate answer?

As for the BF boards, I guess they can be classed as a different case as they aren't owned and operated by an AFL club. Bluey may like to chip in his thoughts on this matter in relation to BF on this issue. I know on my board I have to be quick with the delete button on personal attacks and forward IP addresses/board logs of continual attackers for Rivals to follow up with the ISP of the attackers.

Is an interesting issue though.

So far, at least, on Bigfooty, the only people that has ever come close to overstepping the mark was G4E and a Briswhine fan who was complaining about Carey's alleged "kicking the ball at a child" at the game at Colonial last season. Apart from the pisstaking of each other and our clubs, there's been nothing that I've read that could be called "libellous". I hope it stays this way because if every post had to be checked, then we'd never have any of those great threads with fast replies like the one with every guy on this board trying to pick up Bee

Those are the same sort of reasons that the Lions Forum went 'members only' early last year. At one stage, defamatory comments about a staff member were left on their for about 3 days over the weekend. Some members of the Lions Board wanted to close down the forum immediately. Instead, they opted for members only, when you register you have to provide your details and your membership number from your membership card. They then started posting each persons real name alongside their post. Hoping to make the individual accountable for what they say.

The actual Dixon comments were up there for 2 weeks I guess and the McVeigh ones for a month at least.

I doubt if their management hadn't got involved they'd still be up there today.

Obviously they don't police their board and this was a time bomb waiting to explode.

the bombertalk board has never been policed as heavily as many other boards that seem to be ruled with iron fist (not referring to max or bluey here), but I guess if they have to remove offending posts for fear of legal action to keep the board alive then so be it. Thats obviously better than removing the whole thing just because of a few nit-wits.
