Puzzling. You rate him top 3 right. Yet you think he is going to get the 3rd or 4th defender now. How exactly is that going to work?
A. I said he'd have to be a strong chance.
B. Gumbleton takes the second defender because of his weight and height. Mayne pushes up the ground. Do you pay any attention on here? Everyone has said Mayne will take the third defender, even AFL experts have said it, yet when I say it, suddenly you want to argue it.
C. Commonsense says Mayne will take the third defender when Gumbleton plays......commonsense Gav. Feel free to troll elsewhere, I'm done replying to your crap.

If Gumbleton was lining up against us we would play Dawson on him. If Mayne was lining up against us we wouldn't want that match up at all. Gumbleton in is almost a disadvantage for Mayne because he will play a role more traditional for his style of play. We would be more likely to play Ibbotson on him and having Gumbleton in the side would not effect that decision at all.

I would rate our defenders a bit like this;
McPharlin
Johnson
Ibbotson
Spurr
Dawson
Duffield
Actually they are a pretty even group, but Mayne would lick his lips if Dawson was to head his way.

McPharlin -> Pav
Dawson -> Gumbleton
Johnson -> Clarke
Ibbotson -> Mayne
Spurr -> Walters
Duffield -> Ballas

Let's hope Mayne can use this to his advantage

We match up well against us. I am tipping us to win in a nail-biter.

Manpurple please tell me that you don't truly believe that post because if that's your understanding of the role he plays then your watching another team .
Go back and watch any game this year and just watch how he injects himself into the stoppages and puts pressure on both inside and outside mids from opposition teams .
He will sum up the situation and then he goes in and puts on a block for our mids or tackles their mids if they have the ball .
Give us the names of any other CHF in the AFL past or Present that did that or does that today.
Goodes isn't a CHF and would never have the number of tackles that Mayne racks up .
Just in case you where going to use him as an example
I agree with you but you were saying you would take Mayne over Barlow which to my mind is crazy. Mayne is great but in any team where I could only have one I would take Barlow any day. However good Mayne is at the pressure side of our game plan (and he is) he is not even close to Barlow in this aspect.

Fyfe would still take 5 marks in the forward 50 against him
This is what Hannebery did to Crowley at sydney last year but the Gu shut him down in the finals. I think you underestimate the ability of Mzungu to turn everything into a contest. His real strength is that you can't out run him and he spends his time across the half back line frequently so spoiling is natural. Yes Fyfe would go alright but it wouldn't be a 30 possession, 3 goal day.

Nah, shuffle Ibbo onto Fyfe (great leap and spoil) and send Spurr to Mayne (matches him for physicality, but might not have the burst speed). It would be a great contest to see. We'd struggle to contain both of Walters and Ballas though.

It's pretty hard to shuffle the magnets around, as our mids will press forward and back depending on where the play is. Can I use Fyfe to negate Fyfe?

I agree, although I don't expect instant success, and accept Gumby may not make it. It is not a massive step up required for us.

I have a feeling Gumbleton is going to explode.
Bombers fans will be saying you bastards ripped us off.
Gumby is my tip for our leading goalscorer .

I think of the things that really sets Pav apart is his ridiculous resilience over his career. They debuted in the same round and Pav has played 66 more games than him.
How come you got a tipping comp winners medal and I didnt??

We drew!
