Betts > Thomas > Franklin

How is this possible?

Look at what the likely FA compensation is going to be as all are rated as band 1.

Never mind that the size of Franklin's contract will be more than Thomas and Betts put together.

Dimwit in charge of the AFL needs to f**k off and change the rules so that if there is compensation, it is only proportional to the size of the contract and it should be irrelevant where the previously owning club finishes.

I doubt Carlton will get a 1st Round Pick for Betts.

If Carlton sign Thomas, they will also lose that compensation.

I am unsure how high the contract needs to be to reach band 1. FWIW KB thinks that $500k would be enough to reach band 1.

And that would be true that if carlton get Thomas, compensation will be lost.

But if carlton don't take Thomas, and they get a better PP, serious s*t is going to be lost.

The reason why there is compensation is clubs who are on AFL life support such as P.A, Melbourne, WB & co bitched and moaned that F.A would favor the rich clubs to the AFL.

there should be no compensation at all

That's AFLPA propaganda bull**** so bottom teams have no choice but to fill their lists with delisted spuds.

Last year Port Adelaide lost two, 26 year old, first 18 players to free agency. We receive compensation in the form of second round picks and we were able to add two promising KPP. Without the compo we would have had to fill those list positions with PSD picks or DFA. Players not up to it like Matt Campbell and Henry Slattery would have got to sit on an AFL list for a year longer, while Port Adelaide's list would have gone backwards.

This is likely the last year of compo anyway, so just be glad you get anything at all.

I think that needs to be worked out after a few years of FA.. Not necessarily disagreeing, but I think we'll have a better idea of who moves where after we've seen a few more years of the concept.

But then Port got Monfries as a free agent with the extra cap space.

The fact that they chose to trade pick 40(?) for a free agent so it didn't effect their compo shows what a joke the system is.

Compensation is a joke. Carlton could easily trade their second rd draft pick to the crows for someone that is about to be delisted to get Adelaide to pay Betts overs so that he gets classed as band 1.

Yeah, because Adelaide need to be involved in another shady deal. :p
