Yeah, that's a help thanks. Doesn't have quite what I'm looking for. I guess I can deduce McGrath's and SPP's average points this year but I'm not sure what Curnow or Burton's points totals were at the start of the year to see their progress this year.

That site is excellent for stats.

See if there is a player comparison option.

Maybe Jeremias or Mr_Plow may know this.

Is there any way to look at the AFL ranking points for the Rising Star eligible players to see the amount of points they have averaged this year. Specifically, it would be good to compare Curnow with SPP, McGrath, Burton. I think he would now be pretty close to those three and if his form continues for the remainder of the year would overtake them.

@AFLPlayerRating post a lot of comparative stats on Twitter. You might have to sift through them though.

If you click on their profile you can see where they are at the start of the year by roughly looking on the graph but not exactly. For Curnow at least you can look in this thread to his last game in 2016 and see what he was on.

How incredibly disappointing to fall to the Lions. I was certainly very low after the game and it's taken me almost a week to get up the heart to write this update. But even in the loss there are some positives. We're not throwing the rebuild out with the bathwater, our babies still have a lot of growth left.

How great was it to see Harry McKay debut, the youngster took the most marks inside 50 for the game and kicked a goal. His six SEN Insider votes on debut is a real promising sign. Overall the kid had a strong game although faded away in the second half. On the positive side, look at the impact he had in the first half where most of his touches came, 11 touches, 6 marks, 3 contested marks, zero clangers, 1 tackle, 3 inside 50's and a ripper goal. Charlie Curnow, our other future key post was also incredibly impressive. Kicking a massive goal in the last when a comeback was on the cards for a brief moment. He topped our stat sheet for the game with 15 disposals, 7 marks, 2 contested marks, 4 inside 50;s, six tackles and 2 goals. How phenomenal from the kid. Sam Docherty was a down on his prolific self but we as a team didn't get that much of it. He had 24 touches and 4 marks playing less of a back role and more time in the middle, in the middle he contributed really well with 5 clearances, carving up the centre square with 4 takeaways. He had 4 tackles and 4 1 %ers. Sam Kerridge was consistent and only made 3 clangers, which is good for his standards. He had 23 touches, 8 marks, 4 clearances, 6 inside 50's and a goal assist. Samo Petrevski-Seton had supporters on his back after an amazing boundary line goal he also had 14 touches, 4 marks, 4 tackles and a goal from a well earned free kick. Nick Graham was good without bein what I want him to be, he needs to step up and take the mantle of that Ed Curnow/Cripps inside mid position. He had 6 tackles but only one clearance and only 4 contested possessions in his 13 touches. Lachie Plowman had 12 touches, 6 marks, 2 tackles and not a whole lot else, but he was really solid in defence. Jed Lamb picked up some ball, 12 touches, 2 marks, 4 tackles. David Cuningham looked really good and had 75% efficiency in his 12 touches. In that small sample size he had 3 clearances which keeps making my eyebrows nudge a little. Tom Williamson's return looked lovely, 12 touches, 2 marks and 3 1%ers. Zac Fish put in a lot of pressure and had a huge smother on more than one occasion, he had 11 touches but 5 clangers, he had 3 inside 50's though. Jacob Weitering was quiet with 5 touches and 1 1%er. Harrison Macreadie came back but only had 6 touches and not much else. Jack Silvagni had a really quiet time only managing 6 touches and 2 marks and a very dad like spoil.

nearly 2 seasons in and am wondering if we'll be contending for finals in 2019?

Bit worried there may be another spoon coming with the apparent drop off in the last couple of weeks

Ive always said we'll be playing finals in 2018.. im softening on that approach at the moment looking at where we are at.

But. If we get Kelly i can definitely see 2019 finals

I think we'll need more than Kelly to lift that midfield in time for 2019, Shiel doesn't come across the Murray until 2020.

Unless one or more of SPS, Fisher or Cuningham emerge as elite players in their 2nd/3rd season like Cripps did.

Id back at least one of them too. I have a lot of faith in all three

Relatively lean week apart from a few standouts.

Disappointing to see Plowman and Weitering both slip down a few spots, it was a nice streak. With the team struggling and the defence under siege, it was going to be difficult to maintain.

Charlie, Samo and Harry are the standouts.

Charlie's linear rise continues, +115 in 6 weeks, started the streak as our 24th ranked player, he's now 15th and eyeing off Kerridge, Casboult and Thomas for the 12th spot where he will likely finish 2017.

Samo has put together a really nice 4 week patch here. He's +62 in that time, going from our 30th to 21st ranked player. He's closing in on Dennis, Phillips and Jack and could finish the season at 18th. Handy addition to the team. ;)

Harry's first 2 games have been very pleasing. He's a work in progress but the ratings system will love his contested marking, goal-kicking and solid disposal efficiency. Watch this space.

And well done to Cripps for achieving a new career-high ranking!

I coudn't be happier with our recruitment and development of this rebuild so far. Look at most of our recruits over past 2 years and they have improved and shown they are have real potential to take us further

Charlie - really starting to step up now and believe in himself. Has it all. Elite
McKay - Shows signs and hasn't been daunted stepping up to AFL level. If anything it's made him better. Our Joe Daniher
Cuningham - Excellent workrate and defensive side. Pace and skill. Needs to find easy ball a bit more but very good
Fisher - Small but works hard. Another pre season will really help. Natural ball winner
Polson - Very young and inexperienced but was playing good footy before injured. Smart good ball user who can find it
Weitering - Elite defender struggling in second year. A fresh start in 2018 will see him back to his best
Marchbank - Elite defender who reads the ball so well. Another pre season will see him step up further
Silvagni - Works hard and improving. Tiring in last few weeks. Needs another pre season but improvement impressive considering lack of games before drafted
SPS - starting to really show his talent. Workrate exceptional and has class. 2018 watch out
Williamson - defies his experience. Done more than expected. Has poise and a lethal left foot. Big improver and lots more to come
Macreadie - as per Willo. Impressive just needs some size and time
Kerr - Young key forward that has shown some real signs he could be good. Raw but in 2018 I can see him playing some senior footy. Mature young kid
Pickett - Oozes class and brings much needed pace. Been okay but needs a big pre season. Will make a difference if he can step up
LeBois - club is impressed but early injury and some home sickness have stunted development. Started to show something and some time and big pre season will make a difference. Extremely talented.

Could we really have hoped for any more? Add another 6-8 like these this year and 2018 is really exciting. 2019 even better.

There has also been significant improvement in Jones Kruezer Plowman Docherty Cripps Rowe even Gibbs & Murphy under Bolton

Look at their improvement compared to Boekhurst Graham Jakcsh White Buckley Smedts Lamb Sumner Palmer Gorringe etc. Bugger all.

If we are to be a top 4 side again we need to bring in players that keep improving us or they need to go. Average players that plateau hold us back.

Another strong gain from Charlie (+181 now on the season) with big jumps also coming from SPS and Pickett.

SPS gets a special mention this week - he's starting to make up some serious ground towards the back end of the year. Currently he's at +170 for the year but a gain of 82 over the past 5 weeks alone is impressive. At this rate he's a very realistic chance of finishing his debut season inside the top 400 - not bad considering he had an injury interrupted preseason.

He's also moved up into 3rd place among all first year players - behind SPP and Hannan, the latter who he should overtake as soon as next week
