EDIT - Sorry Willo_ I hijacked your post here but had to insert this at the top.

Cheers.

Or buy a chrome cast and get the live app.

Works brilliantly for me.
I've got the live app but it doesn't seem to allow me to chrome cast... i watched the replay on my phone last night

I hope I'm not doing something really basic wrong...

Do you have an iPhone or Android phone? Chromecast won't work with Apple devices like that.
Android (galaxy note4..best phone I've ever had :D )

I'll have to play with the settings on my chromecast app... watching on TV certainly appeals more than on the phone

Where in the AFL Live app do you stream the game? I just subscribed (on Telstra mobile), but I can't see anywhere that tells me I can watch the games live. Do I just select that game on Matchday on the menu, and an option for watching it live appears?

I was researching this last night. Apparently as part of the agreement it will stream live to a device - either phone or tablet - but not to a TV. For replays it should be fine. So if you use an Android phone/tablet you can mirror the device to the screen with Chromecast, then open the AFL Live app and it works (my wife did this last night with her phone). If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can't do that with Chromecast, but you can stream via an adapter.

A lot messier than it really should be.

On the app, there's a play arrow and head phones top right corner. On game day, press this and you'll get options on what games are available.

It is supposed to only be viewed on mobile devices, however, chromecast has allowed you to stream this to your t.v.

Partridge has given a great run down on how to do that.

I bought the digital membership, before signing up to telstra, but can't cancel that digital membership until next year. So they double dip from me this year.

Also, the app and AFL live is unmetered for telstra customers too. So you can watch anywhere, anytime without worry of breaking your bandwidth.

Yeah, I've got an iPhone, so should work ok if I hit the play button on the green headphones and use AirPlay to put it through my AppleTV... correct?

Oh, and can I stream it via wifi, or will it only work on 4G?

I'm not Apple, so I'm unsure. If it works like chromecast, then yes.

I know if you try to flick the video to another dlna device it won't work, well that's what happened last time I tried before chromecast

Oh ok. What do you do now?

Last night I plugged the iPad into a Lightning to Digital adapter (which then goes into the HDMI port). Basically mirrors your device on the TV, then you open up the AFL Live pass. It looked a little ropey the first time but was much better last night.

As I said, when the limitations are contractual and not technical it's getting pretty stupid. If they don't want people to watch on a TV don't make the app available.

Wouldn't surprise me, the Foxtel Go app has been designed in a way that prevents Apple TV from Apple devices and doesn't enable the use of HDMI adapters. Literally the only way to get it on to a TV is by linking to a PC (which of course has the FoxFooty channel disabled when doing so) So I guess if they really don't want you watching it on TV they'll do everything possible to stop it.

In this case it makes sense, the App gives you access to all AFL games and depending on your Wifi/4g speeds can be quite high in quality. If they enable it to be easily transferred to TV it makes FoxFooty redundant in many cases, so it'd likely be something that Foxtel have pushed for the app designers to inhibit accessibility. Ch7 would likewise be upset as well but they are FTA.

It definitely is. I've already watched a chunk of Monday's game just on the iPad and the quality is absolutely perfect. Zero buffering either.

With streaming of TV appearing to the next revolution and doing so with high picture quality (netflix, Bein, fetch TV etc) Foxtel are losing customers left, right and centre, have lost subscribers due to Netflix and co and will lose more having just lost the EPL to Optus' Fetch TV streaming service so you can certainly understand why they're hell bent in protecting their AFL/NRL interests, it's probably the only thing keeping people subscribed to their services for the immediate short term.

I'm pretty certain this is how dazbroncos has it setup.
But the international stream may be different. I have no idea.

When I had the international stream I could AirPlay it.
Then I got the local one and couldn't.

I've never tried a cable.

Yeah something like that, same spot as the radio option pops up on that menu (it shows up as a small screen which you click on to expand. There is also a video option in the dropdown menu on the left-hand side of the screen where it will probably be also. It will be pretty easily found when the games are running across the weekend.
