Like how I google stuff for an hour or so and the ads start appearing in my BF pages for the companies I was just searching.

you my good sir need to use chrome or preferably the open source chromium - http://www.chromium.org/getting-involved/download-chromium which is exactly the same as chrome before it is repackaged.

go to - settings -> advanced settings -> content options

Set cookies to "keep local data until i quit browser" and check "block third party cookies and site data"

you can set exceptions, such as i set one for bigfooty.com which means i am always logged in what i restart my browser

then download adblock

i would normally recommend firefox but the last couple of years the speed of the browser has been significantly overtaken by chrome/chromium to the point that i am happier with chromium. apparently the last update of firefox had a significant speed increase but i am yet to check it out. will be doing so in the next couple of weeks.
