Re: BFFFL #1 - Part 3

Thanks Sven/GG.

Thought I had outwitted myself picking up Foster and starting him over McClain. Ironically an ex-bagger, Williams, has been my stand out MVP this year.

Interesting only Moss can wear two rings. Now to look to some of my colleges for some trade value as I unloadmmy non-keepers.:(

Congrats too Fuey for a great season.

Well done Brasher, deserving winner mate.

Even if you had all your worst performers for the week on the park, you would've kicked my arse.

But its all good, I'm happy with my season, and think I highly over-achieved.

Re: BFFFL #1 - Part 3

Just checked this thread to see what Balmain posted (Hoping for something like BFFL#2 > BFFL#1) and quite shocked about the new discussions to update the drafting rules without BFFL#2 being involved.

What was the current drafting process? If it worked last season without any dramatic changes, this new system just seems like a system for some people to get a little value out of their bad drafting choices and could easily be abused and lead to little fights.

Such as "I am trading Star QB#1 as I am not keeping him and would like something for pick in round 6"
Person interferes, complains that it is unfair as the player is now a round 6 keeper.
Trade gets knocked back because everyone is not happy and this continues.
Also you could find that the really good drafters just horde draft pick after draft pick if they have six or seven players worth being keepers (Specially if they keep their lower picks and trade all there star players).

If we did this system in BFFL#2, I would have four good players to trade (Brady, Romo, Bush and Roy Williams) which could effectively pick me up a first rounder and second rounder. Then I keep Boldin, DeAngelo Williams and Flacco or Avery, upgrade a few of my lower picks and players and then I would probably dominate the next season. All this does is increase the gap between the top teams and the bottom teams.

I thought I was being very good not rubbing in to you bunch of saps how bad this BFFL comp is. Not to get within 40 points with your best team is lamentable!!!

Congratulations to Balmainforever for pwning the best of BFFFL. No easy task beating Brasher.

Larkis, you're exaggerating the trade thing. I dont want to write 50 million words again to explain why the current system is flawed and why the proposal is better. The things you're saying cant happen, wont happen, and any such trades would be vetoed by the League Manager. That's why he is there for, to ensure the rules are applied with integrity.

Re: BFFFL #1 - Part 3

Couldn't have had that week last week, could you??;)
Sorry Fuey...well done BalmainForever, I didn't even know about the SB round this week but I don't think it would have made much difference. So sorry for letting the comp down.....I feel like the Buffalo Bills now!

Seriously, there is a reason why FF comps don't normally play into week 17.

Re: BFFFL #1 - Part 3

There are new trade rules in place for both leagues that relate to trades made during the off-season.

This rule only applies in off-season trades where you're trading for a player on someone else's roster FOR THE PURPOSE of making that player one of your keepers for the new season.

Currently, if you trade for a player to keep during the off-season, you give up a draft pick to get that player, but also have to forfeit another draft pick from where he was drafted originally to activate the keeping of him.

The new method is---the draft pick you give up to get that player will be deemed as the pick you "forfeit" in keeping him. So you dont lose another draft pick. So now simple pick-for-player off-season trades can happen.

The rules of fair play around it are....

1. You cant trade for a player to keep and then trade him to someone else. You either keep him or change your mind and not keep him (ie, you wasted a pick trading for him).

2. Any trades offered still have to go thru the LM, so no loopholes or collusions will get thru.

3. A person who trades a player and receives a draft pick, that is considered an "acquired pick". An acquired pick (in a pick-for-keeper trade) doesnt get forfeited when you go to select your own keepers, your original picks do. All other pick-for-pick trades arent considered "acquired" so forfeiture can occur on those. If a pick-for-keeper trade occurs where more than one pick is involved in the trade, only that one pick itself which relates to the new value of the traded player is counted as an "acquired" pick, the others arent and can get forfeited.

4. If a person does try to exploit some loophole, the LM can make you forfeit any acquired picks or even higher picks when you then select your keepers.

GG...because I am a visual leaner by nature can you show how the new trade rules would affect a scenario as follows for me:

Assuming I start with all 16 picks (picking last in snake draft).

I decide to keep D Williams (4), M Forte (1) and R Moss (3).

Can I trade guys like Romo, Cassell, McClarein etc for picks and then keep the additional picks straight out?

What happens if the person who receives the player needs to keep that round pick to keep one of their other players. For example, you want to keep Pierre Thomas (5th round) but had already traded the 5th rounder to me for Matt Cassell?

Just to follow up with Brasher, i dont know if there is any action circulating around on the trade tables.

But i'm open to offers on anyone, absolutely anyone.

Brasher....

Yes, you will keep the acquired picks straight out. But it depends.

If you traded Romo for a 2nd and a 4th pick, the 2nd (higher) is Romo's new value and also an acquired pick (wont be forfeited). But the extra 4th will be forfeitable when you then go to keep Williams. That is, you would have two 4th rounders now, so whichever is highest will get forfeited.

Forfeiture here for you means when you go to select your keepers, you will lose your original picks and/or any extra draft picks you received that werent directly involved in a 1pick-for-1keeper trade.

If there is anything fishy in any trade deals, the LM can make "acquired" picks be forfeited as punishment.

Also, just because someone wants to trade 3 or 4 players on his roster, doesnt mean you will get any trade action. There are a lot of tactics involved in trading that will cause that---like not wanting a division rival to get Romo, or the negotiations on Romo's trade value disagreed and negotiations break down, or someone like Cassel, whose current situation is uncertain, so his value could dramatically increase or decrease based on more info around July.

Re: BFFFL #1 - Part 3

Thanks GG that clears it up.

Bottom line using the Cassel example is that his trade value will be directly related to the interest in the market (i.e trade for him knowing your giving up pick x or take your chances in the draft where you may have to reach for him or miss out all together).

Re: BFFFL #1 - Part 3

A lot of talk considering Dspeed has said SFA :p

1st Round - LDT
2nd Round - Reggie Wayne
3rd Round - Terrell Owens

They were my keepers from last year... I dunno if they stay as those choices, or they move...

7th Round - Derrick Ward
8th Round - Kevin Boss

They are the only other players I drafted who I still have  Moved a lot around this year it seems.

Traded or FA players...

Warner - FA/Undrafted
Leinart - FA/Drafted round 7
Cadillac - FA/Round 16
Arrington - FA/Roung 15
Williams - Trade/Round 6
Young - FA/Round 16
Welker - Trade/Round 15
Hill - FA/Undrafted
Breaston - FA/Undrafted
D. Graham - FA/Undrafted
Titans - FA/Undrafted
Akers - FA/Undrafted

Bolded are Highly Likely keepers
Italics are Possible Keepers
Underlined are Trade Bait

I know a few of em are on peoples radars...

Hmmm I think that proves you don't need a great draft to do well :p Not that my late year slump was great or anything

Although its very easy for this, with the whole off season and all.......... So if you want in quick, I ain't chasing anyone.
Bump for this post...

Though I will never get the new rules, probably because of the way its worded

Re: BFFFL #1 - Part 3

I really hate trying to explain how the new rules work. It's really easy to figure out in my head, but seemingly hard to word. Grrr.

Anyway, players from my roster I would trade if people were after a keeper from my list are: Tashard Choice, Chad Henne, Kevin Kolb.

Nothing to go on of course. But every player on my roster including those offered for a trade, are players I intend to redraft.

Basically, my whole team right now is what Id like my 2009 team to look like as well, so I'll be trying to find ways to have them all back on my roster. However, one of those QBs I can deal I guess, or Choice if someone intending to keep Barber wants a play on him. Or maybe if Barber has like a pre-season injury.

Re: BFFFL #1 - Part 3

I think that you are just using too many darn words to try and explain it :p

But I think the general idea is something I was already doing last year with my trades (ie Romo and a 5th (Which Brash woulda had to use to keep Romo) for a 2nd and another pick I think
