Re: BigFooty Fantasy Football League

The problem is that most everyone has no clue who is left at this point, which means that they have to take time to find a cheat sheet, find some one they like and then check the list to see if they've been taken, rinse and repeat until they find a free agent they can pick up. Anyone working and with a busy home life on top of that doesn't have time to deal with this on a day to day basis. Which in the end is why we should have waited till we could have had a live draft and everyone had a player list on screen for rapid selection. I'm all but convinced this draft is completely dead in the water at this point, and it will blow my mind if it is finished before the end of July.

My .02 would be to close the draft at the end of Round 9 after Mizza's pick, and once the online leagues open, and we choose one, we can finish the draft online.
The league host in almost every league has the ability to remove players from the draft board and place them on a teams roster.
I would suggest that we join a league, have the league host place the selections from the first 9 rounds onto the individual teams, and then continue our draft online at round 10.
Still no Mizz. The poor fella is going to geel so bad when he gets back. relax everyone, seriously.

As for the above posted in the draft thread, maybe some of us are taking this more seriously than others. But I have an excel sheet where I have just listed names of guys from depth charts and cheat sheets as we have gone along... and I have marked players off who have been taken.

I guess maybe not everyone has the time for this but I thought that was the way this was working. Otherwise no wonder some of us seem to be drafting better than others.

I'm sure speed will want to continue in this fashion... I'd suggest if you want to get up to date just copy all the team lists thread #2... and then just allocate them into positions on a excel sheet... then you'll be able to see.

one person coming on line does not mean the draft is dead, lol, we are continuing this way, a) because it is impossible to organise a live draft for 16 people and b) it is fine this way, just because 1 pick has taken a while doesnt mean anything, it isn't harder to pick at this stage in my opinion, i have been keeping a list the whole way through and would be able to pick in less then 5 minutes, as i think most people would, Mizza taking 50 hours isnt because he can't decide, he simply hasnt been online

Re: BigFooty Fantasy League Draft Thread

If you can't see that each pick is taking increasingly longer amounts of clock, then I'm not sure you have a good concept of time.
these couple of picks has taken a while, yes but it is not really getting increasingly longer as the draft goes on, actually if you look at before woodson's last pick of Rackers it has been quite good, from pick 115 Cassius Clay Michael Turner to pick 142 cassius clay jerry porter, it took only 2 days 5 hours and 49 minutes, (from June 5 11.35 to June 7 17.24), that's 28 picks in just over two days, averaging at about a pick every 2 hours or so, not bad if you ask me, i think you are overreacting to this one pick taking so long, we'll be finished by mid july i reckon which is what i wanted, it is simply way too hard to organise 16 people to be online at the same time to do an online live draft

Re: BigFooty Fantasy Football League

A suggestion I propose for next season's Bf FDFL is that we arrange a time and everyone must submit thier 50 players in thier listed preference order in the 45m WINDOW. First in, best dressed as it will become the race to get in first to get first, second ect pick. Then either the commish rakes thru the listings and we have the draft worked out without a hint of hassle.:thumbsu: Thanx for the idea Vick>footy & dspeed. That's just a solution to all this waiting and second guessing. Besides, next season, we can start two weeks from the season kick-off, coz you know injuries/ supensions/ contract disputes can occur that can hamper your fantasy team. I know I've butchered my inuagral fantasy football team by by-passing the RB position. Oh well, live & learn I guess.

Ok guys, is anyone worried about Mizza? Like maybe something's happened to him? Has he like broken a leg or something? Does anyone know him well enough to ring him? He's got a myspace account...I'll go check to see when he was last on there, but if anyone knows his email or cell number or something, maybe they should contact him, because I don't think he'd be gone for that long even if he was doing his final exams. He'd surely pop in briefly or something.

i hate to shoot down ideas, but i believe that having a list of preferences is also not that good, for example your preferences might work out tat you end up with 5 Rbs early or whatever, i know you can work it so you have an order of positions aswell but that then might mean someone misses out on a bargain, i have seen it happen in autodraft leagues which i have been a part of, personally i think this draft has worked really well, people are just abit worried after this wait, but on the whole it has been fine, starting late is ideal as you say but in the end it is very very very difficult to organise 16 people to be online at the one time, people have work, study, sport, family commitments etc which make it very hard, so whilst starting early isnt ideal, it is the same situation for everyone so we have to make the best of it

I'm still worried tho because he ALWAYS pops in, knows when his picks are. Like all this time, he's been busy studying for exams possibly (why he's only had 1 post in this thread), just pops in, checks when it's his turn, logs out, checks, logs out, checks, makes his picks, logs out.

But he's just been gone for over 50 hours now. Even with exams etc he'd log in at least to check. He wouldn't be on holidays either.

Eventually he's gotta log in I guess, but if it's like 4 or so days over you'd have to assume something has happened....maybe a personal injury or family problem? Just hope it's fairly soon because it's ground to a halt here, and it's gonna affect other people's enthusiasm to log in as well. People start getting slacker and slacker. Or if they just wanna say "well if mizza can have 4 days to make his pick, then I'm gonna wait 5 days to make sure i pick the right guy out of two im undecided on".

You may find people all taking 3-4 days a pick to glean new info/rumor about certain players. Also, if you give mizza 4, 5, or 7 days, and he doesn't really have a huge heartbreak excuse, you're gonna have to allow everyone 4, 5, or 7 days to be on the clock too.

In the end, I think Vick<Footy's idea was very good. Tho I don't want to wait months before we can start making round 10 picks. I'd rather we all just rifled thru this and sat back arguing, debating and possibly making trades etc.

i have a feeling as soon as Miza makes his pick and others start doing the same that thiswill be forgotten and it will pick up again, i cant see people waiting 4 or 5 days on purpose to get an advantage or anything, anyway, hopefully in the next day or so he'll make his pick, then i have two Pmed picks waiting to go aswell

i am willing to wait up to a week to be honest, i realise it isnt completely ideal but i'd hate to make his pick for him only for him to turn up an hour later with a genuine excuse why he hadnt been online eg his computer gave up the ghost or he was away for a week or whatever, so a tentative deadline of friday perhaps

Re: BigFooty Fantasy Football League

Maybe he just went away on long weekend with his mates sometime between thursday-monday.

But let's say he's not logged in making his pick by monday night? How much long after that point?
exactly it is a long weekend, id put money on him having had exams last week (for example my brother is 16 and had them last week finishing thursday), finished on thursday, checked in friday morning to see if he was up and he wasnt so he was heading off for the long weekend, a very plausible explanation

Yeah that would suck as a scenario. Tho a whole week is still too long. If his pc crashed he'd still have means to go to library or friends or school's pc to even just let someone know.

I'd say long weekend, but if he's not back making his pick monday night, or tuesday night latest, I'd start to worry because it'd be a needless wait till friday - if he's not saying anything tuesday unlikely friday.

But I just hope he's alright and it's just long weekend. But there are people a bit peeved off still. I wouldn't be surprised if people end up out of 'spite' taking 4 days as well.

if people do it out of spite then they are a joke of a person to be frank, i think most people are mature enough to realise sometimes these things happen

Either literal spite, or just that "it's not fair" thing. I dont know. But they could always say "I'll take 5 days, make sure I pick the right guy, get some latest info to make sure, and then if anyone asks, just apologize on BF that my wife had a family emergency and they'll just have to believe it". No one would know.

I doubt it, but who knows??

Anyway, seemingly there's no rush? You, JD, and others are all cool to let these last rounds take as long as possible so that we hit the season start just as we finish up the drafting.

IMO, I might be the only one, but I want it to finish up straight away, so that all picks were made equally blind.

But I'm fine either way. The point tho was, if there's no rush tho as the attitude, then no one can complain if we ALL take 1-4 days a pick for the hell of it. Can't be crying foul as long as it finishes up before September, right?

Mizza is out buying merchandise for his 'team du jour'.

Any guesses on who he will be supporting this year?

Doubt it will be the Rams or the Chargers, cause they were his teams for the last two seasons.

correct, in terms of picking blind now, if roud 16 happens mid August, everyone will be picking under the same conditions, so it is not like some people pick all their team now and others in August, so we are all dealing with the same factors

lol, i think he has learnt his lesson and realised LT is the best there is, so might as well stick with them, if he were to jump on a team id say it would be the cards, up and coming team with a potentially potent offence

g.g., I guess my point is we didn't start with time restrictions on picks so it's a little unfair to impose them because we're getting impatient.

Mizza may have a life and gone away for the weekend. Hardly fair to boot someone for missing a few days when the draft is taking this long.
