Very tough to come up with a predicted ladder this year. Top 2 are clear, Darley next best maybe, then throw darts

Melton
East
Darley
North
Marsh
Sunbury
Ballarat
Sebas
Redan
Lakers

I have Melton & Darley early favourites. They seem to have continuity within their groups, elite coaches & have added some class in Crofts & Hind respectively.

East seem to have lost a bit of depth but no doubt they'll have young talent stepping up & their guns remain.

Sunbury & North are harder to place, capable of knocking over those sides above but probably need more to go right to do so.

Sebas have added some quality in Hommelhoff, Perry & Papst, they'll will be eager to bounce back.

Swans, Lakers, Marsh & Redan: They'll be expecting further steps forward. They've got games into their younger players & have each added some nice recruits.

With an even draw & all sides looking stronger. It's shaping up as a good season ahead.
Good luck all.

Melton
Darley
East Point
North Ballarat
Sunbury
Sebastopol
Ballarat
Bacchus Marsh
Redan
Lake Wendouree

Top 4 well clear of the rest…

Darley hosted Geelong FNL club South Barwon in a practice game today - South Barwon defeated Darley by 47 points in hot conditions.

Sunbury have forfeited their under 19s this year ???
That’s correct. The Gisborne Giants have raided both Sunbury lions & Sunbury kangaroos making it really tough for both clubs to get an unders team. The Kangaroos managed but only just, the Lions were not so lucky.

Surely Sunbury is big enough to support two unders teams? Why are so many kids ditching footy between 16-19?

Looks that way from the fixtures on PlayHQ.

Is it that the juniors are used to playing close to home and the prospect of 6 early morning trips up to Ballarat was too much, or are there bigger issues?

There is 4 teams in Sunbury + Diggers, Gis Giants & Riddell all near by. Only the Kangaroos & East have an under 18s. Looks like there are quite a few teams in the EDFL struggling to field 18s as well. So it’s definitely not just a Sunbury issue. I’m sure the lions will bounce back and get a team next year, it’s just very unusual by their standards I guess.

Spot on. And from what I understand, it’s not only the raiding by giants but a real lack of numbers in the under 17’s the previous year so nothing coming through for this year.

Tough pill to swallow for a Sunbury fan

I think I read on another thread there was over 40 clearances to Giants from Sunbury Lions. That is really not handy at all and could make things hard for next year. I remember when the Lions had huge participation numbers for juniors. Now it Seems the Kangaroos have got their noses in front now.

Also the BFNL have changed all their age groups. Its now 16s then 18.5 instead of 19.
The RDFL is 17s then 19.5.

Why do senior comps have under [emoji637][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]]] and half? You can drink alcohol and drive a car, surely you can play senior footy

Provides a level of play for younger players who aren’t good enough for senior footy, playing with their mates, and keeps the tws free for players who are too old, too slow (or both).
Extra bodies at the ground buying pies, beers etc, supporting the younger netballers, generally just making the club a more vibrant place.

We're short of reserves footballers, you've got 12 guys right there, many clubs rename the reserves the development side
