18'& 19's footy is a huge problem all over Victoria. The AFL only concentrate on TAC teams, I mean even Tassie lost their TAC program a few years back WTF. They have returned to the comp this year & will have a team in the VFL within two years, I believe. Clubs need to start thinking outside the square, when it comes to the 19's, they are your investment. The reason Melton made the GF last year, is because they have some great players who returned from the Jets & wanted to play back at their junior club with their mates. (Congratulations to the MFC) The Governance of this club has been exceptional. They have not gone crazy throwing $$$ at ex AFL players or mercenaries, who fly in for the day! They have looked after their own kids. The MFC have shown & proven that this is the way forward, they have been patient & methodical. Darley have also done well with their 19's & due to injuries to senior players, they have had to call on the kids. Painful now but a breeding ground for the seniors. Clubs who throw $$$ at mercenaries which will fail in the long run, you can see the trend all over Victoria. Make an incentive program for your under 19's & look after them, pay for the their socks, shorts, boots, as some of these kids are still at school & from a single family. Build it & they will come!

I also praise Melton Football Club for what they are doing.

How do you compare the 3 Melton clubs.

The area around Melton Sth is filled with businesses so do they grab that sponsorship? Lot of new housing going up around Tabcorp Park? However the kids will take time to come through?

How are Melton Centrals going?

Do Melton bloods still attract a lot of juniors?

Melton have done very well to get their juniors back to the club. This is great from a points side of things. However, don't be fooled they have all come back for the love of the club. Am hearing serious issues ahead with being able to meet their obligations.

I’ve heard something similar. Not good. Be a disaster if it all fell apart.

Shocked me when I heard how much they were paying their home grown players.
Also hearing an improving Ballarat based team pushed its 2018 players to take a pay cut for 2019.

I don't see the issue in rewarding your home grown talent financially within reason. Some guys are always having to play for some kind of discount, but if guys are being offered 1500 a game elsewhere and are good enough to receive that, then I would rather spend 1000 keeping them than having to spend 1000 to go and recruit a player from elsewhere. Better to give money to a local if they are worth it and the spend the money at the club than to get a ring in who doesn't get too much involved with functions and the like.

100% agree with you Druid. Seems that everyone bags clubs for paying recruits over locals, but then also bags clubs for paying locals.

I'm not bagging clubs for paying their home grown talent at market value, I was just shocked at the market value.
Obviously where country and metro leagues share such close borders there's going to be a very competitive market for quality players. The points system has little effect on player payments, as the movement of players, the size of the transient player pool and their market value will ultimately be the drivers for setting player payments. We know from following the WRFL over the past few years that salary caps are difficult to police/enforce, so it goes without saying that a club bordering a league like this will be continually fighting off the poachers from cashed up clubs and this costs money to fight.

I think you will find Melton will be just fine. They are one of the best sides in the league while rewarding locals at the same time. Plus still have another gear to click into this season.

Why would anyone touch him to be honest?
I agree roota. But in saying that and i know its easier said than done, but if they can get him right off field he could be the difference between sunbury just making the finals and actually winning the premiership.

Have been to the last 2 Redan home games and been very entertained by the standard of play. It's a new experience for me to be able to watch the netball during half time, as well. The City Oval is a great venue with the old wooden stand, and I'm looking forward to exploring the other grounds and seeing what else is around.

I don't think the league has shown any leadership at all in this. They have all these different themed rounds and one of them is white ribbon day for violence against women. How they registered him is derogatory to all the women that work and volunteer in the league. They weren't allegations he was charged. Poor form BFL.

The BFL don’t care, just happy people are talking about the league. Courier will have a story on him every week also

Just wondering if any clubs have recently released a club history book or whether clubs who have released books in the past still have copies available.
It would be nice to add another history book or two to my sporting library.
Redan had a history book released some time ago but I am not sure if it would still be available to buy. I am sure if you asked the club they would be able to let you know.

Spudman, what is going on at the MFC? very ordinary performance yesterday, I see Orr didn't play, is he injured? may be a close game next week against South if Clark plays. Great win by Darley yesterday, they are ticking along very nicely, starting to regain injured players. Will the coach get back for finals?

I’ve heard he may get back late in the year, but still unknown. Would be handy to bring in for the finals. Top of the table clash this week in East versus Darley. Hopefully a good game, East beat darley easy last year in both games played in Ballarat.

Melton should still beat South comfortably.

The season is getting tighter each week. 4 sides for the last 3 spots come finals time, and anyone can beat anyone on their day. This might be the year where the uneven draw really costs someone making the 6 with the competition so even.

PLenty of eight point games coming up in the next 6 weeks with Sebas vs Melton and Redan vs Bacchus massive in the grand scheme of things.

East point v darley was a cracker. East just getting on top late in the last.

Sebas have finally got going after a slow start to the year. (Still have Austin & Hausler to come in ?)
