You can't tell me that when news editors send camera crews out to film something as innocuous as a guy leaving an airport on crutches they aren't secretly hoping for the sort of response they got in this instance

Or if I'm even more cynical that they're deliberately trying to provoke that response
No need to be cynical at all.

Look how much copy and righteous indignation they got out of it.

Actions speak louder then words.

I’m not condoning the pushing of a camo, but they’re certainly happy to keep rolling the film and pumping up this story over and over.

The facts are they agreed to get some shots at the main exit, the flight was delayed more than two hours, Eagles decided Nic had had enough so he was to be taken out the side, camos saw it and followed him out there.

I get it, you’ve been standing there for two hours, the networks are paying overtime for camos at the airport past midnight, you’re not going to go back without a shot. I get where they’re coming from completely. Staples shouldn’t have pushed them. But get stuffed playing the victim on this while continually rolling the footage. They love this outcome.

Their business model is completely broken now that everyone has a camera and instant publishing capabilities in their pocket. They have resorted to rubbish editorial nonsense and sensationalist claptrap instead of actually reporting the facts. MSM is dying a slow death.

14 minutes of NicNat discussion?
Opened the show on Nic Nat.

Later had a segment about the game mainly focusing on us.

And then even had a separate thing about Hutching.

Then right at the end mentioned Nic Nat again (when the news broke of the confirmation of the ACL).

Can't complain about that.

Staples created a story out of nothing ,just jump in the car and drive away ..

Poor behaviour from a ex police sergeant quite shocking really ..

Easy to say, bloke had spent hours at airports and on a plane and clearly has a close emotional attachment to Naitanui.

Those media pricks were instructed not to be there.

I know his intentions were honourable but I didn’t like seeing the way he went about it ..Very unprofessionally and mentally weak his behaviour..

the losers could video from a distance if they wanted - but there were trying to get up close during an extremely emotional time for a player - ambulance chasers thats all.

Great too see the club looking after a players welfare

this is a story over a non-event.

Heaven forbid they talk about something real like the premiership team is often not the best team in the league all because of the location of the grand final.

He’s human, who cares. People aren’t robots.
Yes but shouldn’t his training as a Police sargeant kept him in command of his emotions ..He wasn’t dealing with a angry mob or protesters sure media presence was quitety trying to film but hardly threatening..

That's pretty much what it all boils down to. I understand that Staples was annoyed but the cameras weren't up in NicNat's face, they were shooting from a reasonable distance and no questions were being shouted at Nic. Had Staples ignored the cameras there would've been a 5 second shot of NN leaving the airport on his crutches in the news story and no-one would bat an eyelid. Unfortunately it turned into something it didn't really need to.

Anyway, that's all done and dusted now. As an opposition supporter I love watching NicNat in full flight…. have met him a couple of times and as others have said before me, a really good fella. Wretched luck for the poor guy. Here's to a full recovery and my very best wishes to him. The game is all the more poorer when gun players like NN are missing for extended periods. :thumbsu:

Why did they need that footage at all? They didn’t. A bit of common sense, or a better way to put it - sensitivity - from the media would be nice.

The thing that really annoyed me last night on TF was when Luke Darcy said “emotions were running high” and that flog McClure literally asked “emotions are running high because of what?” Loved Darcy’s response though, ditto Browndog_30x. McClure needs to go, the way the cocky, self righteous little prick tried to talk down to and dismiss Darcy and Browny was poor form.

Anyway, Peter Staples for Best Clubman Award.
