The argument about Test players being available to play puzzles me. Some don't play like Starc while Smith, Marnus, Boland, Lyon, Head, Green, Renshaw have ordinary records.

Of the Test team playing today only Cummins and possibly Carey are terrific at both forms. Warner and now Haze are better suited to BaBeL and are borderline Test selections.

Starc is key to Australia’s t20i team and hasn’t not played at t20 domestic game since ~2016. Im not sure why the media hasn’t been on his case more.
Green is also someone that needs to play in the BBL, with his $3M IPL, he still needs to prove to MI that he can make the first XI.
And Head would probably do well in the BBL.

Starc has no interest and why should he have to play bbl. Green has nothing to prove. Both ar injured anyway.

So you don’t think they’d do better than the grade cricketers who are getting games due to a lack of depth? 😂😂

Lol, take Boland for example. I know he’s with the Hurricanes but his ‘average’ record is better than all the Stars quicks this year except NCN who can’t stay on the park.

It’s even better than their platinum dud from across the Tasman.

So I’m sure they’d be more than happy to have him come home rather than carrying the drinks.

Lol. Channel 7 are dumb as a rock.

Going forward:
'A special clause in the deal allows for Seven’s shared commitment to improve the BBL, with SWM offering a revenue share upside on the BBL. SWM will pay increased rights fees only after SWM achieves certain BBL revenue hurdles which are expected to deliver positive BBL earnings each season, which would require a material improvement on the current contract revenue performance. '

Is that SEVEN requiring CA to get the BBL to earn its keep ? Dumb you say ......

This goes back to Starc needing to play some sort of domestic T20 just like everyone else does to be eligible to play for Australia.
I am not doubting the fact that Starc is a quality bowler and is one of the best Australia has produced.
But it seems a little unfair that guys like Ellis aren't able to get games for Australia, as it does not seem like an equal playing field for selection.

unfair, unshmare!

Who is this Ellis you speak of?

How many Indian test players can't get a game in the IPL? Genuine question - I don't know. But it would be a good indication of how our test players would fare in the BBL.
Only 2 Indian Test cricketers do not have IPL contracts. Chet Pujara and Humana Vihari. Both of whom are known for their slow anchoring type of batting style. Pujara was recently removed from the Indian side after a string of low scores, and Vihari was brought in to replace him in that #3 spot in the order. Both non-selections in the IPL are justified.

It is also important to for that both Pujara and Vihari still do play T20 cricket in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (India's T20 domestic competition). And they both also play county cricket during the English summer

Pujara has made plain his priority is Test cricket. He is my equal favourite Indian player.

I don't think Boland has a contract this year. He doesn't with Hobart anyway.

Ellis has been disappointing this year.

I am told by incredible sources that as of 2024/25, possibly as soon as 2023/24 (negotiations re commencing new broadcast deal a year early are currently taking place), there is a high chance of the league being split into two groups.

Group 1: Strikers, Hurricanes, Renegades, Stars
Group 2: Heat, Scorchers, Sixers, Thunder

Play the teams in your group twice, teams in the other group once = 5 home, 5 away and there's your 10 total games per team. Top 2 from each group qualify for finals.

If this happens, let it be known as the Melbourne Stars Clause as I believe CV execs are salty about the green pea hearts starting with a heavy Sydney/Perth schedule for the past three years (and therefore having their finals hopes dashed early each season).

With the season being cut back to 40 games, they are worried this theme of unfairness will only be amplified (crap teams copping both the Scorchers and Sixers twice each, good teams beating up on both the Stars and Canes twice).

CA meanwhile see the potential of two groups as a way to decrease one-sided affairs while also increasing the odds of the most-watched teams (Stars and Gades) playing finals, and in general making the worst teams always, at most, only two spots on the ladder away from finals.

EDIT: This just came across my desk...
