Be interesting to know if we play the least amount of International Cricket each Summer? Not really relevant except around availability of players.
 
I don't know why they want to reduce the number of games in the BBL when there is no other international cricket on tv here at this time of year.

If CA aren't going to schedule ODIs or T20 internationals like this summer then the BBL is the only other cricket people can watch apart from the tests.

It's no doubt one of the reasons the crowds and tv ratings for the BBL are on the rise again.

I'm not sure that will make much difference when the BBL is competing against other richer T20 competitions like the new SA one, that started on January 10th so unless the BBL finishes before then they will still lose big name international players to that competition like they have done this year.

Next season's schedule is packed, though. Internationals from October til mid-March.

I agree with this, CA have had 12 years to make the BBL the premier competition over the Christmas period, and they have just been overtaken by two new leagues that are able to dish out more cash to players.
The SuperSmash are paying players peanuts and the quality of the BPL is still quite low (with heavy overseas representation). But as you can see, rsa an uae are already drawing regular bbl players away.
 
BBL doesn't need a large amount of big name overseas players if they get the Australian players playing regularly. I'm sensing CA goal with BBl is to have it during a non international period so all the aus players can play. Possibly having the new year's test as the last international fixture for the summer or until mid march. It gives BBL a one month window in Jan for aus players to play it exclusively. I wouldn't be surprised if they move the new year's test either to accommodate the bbl.

New Year's Test is in the schedule until at least 2027, so it would take some negotiation to get it done before then. I like the idea, though.

  • Autumn holidays Thursday 7 April – Sunday 23 April.
  • Winter holidays Saturday 24 June – Sunday 9 July.
  • Spring holidays Saturday 16 September – Sunday 1 October.
  • Summer holidays Thursday 21 December – Sunday 29 January 2024
Does make it hard to play it could start the summer with the Boxing Day Test and finish on Australia Day in Adelaide

Then you have December as BBL time

I think BBL has to be January. December, everyone is in an end of year rush, schools finish a week before Christmas (that's the target audience). Too hard.

As I've said before, I'd like to try the tests along side BBL. I really think they're largely different audiences and they don't cannabilise one another.

People go to watch stars. Carey and Head are international players that people want to see. Today shows once again they couldn’t give a crap if they made a run or not. That’s the problem. It’s a job. They play because they have to so they get paid. The fact people go to watch them means nothing. Who would go watch this crap?
