We'll join forces with NZ and the four biggest cities over there can have a team, making a 12 team comp.

Not this shit again...

WA certainly seemed to embrace the Big Bash earlier than most and have had rabid support the entire time. That plus the stadium makes the case for a second team. Though personally I don't see the need for any new teams.

As an aside, the 'minor city' stuff annoys me too. We're not that far off overhauling Brisbane as the third biggest city in Australia. How big does it have to get to be 'major'.

The rabid support though I do feel that a considerable portion of that came from state pride.

Its Geelong by miles. 1/ They have the ground ready to go, it will hold 35000. 2/ They love their sport in Geelong. 3/ Weather is perfect 4/ Train station 5 minutes from the entrance. 5/ Short walk to the city centre. No need to look anywhere else.

ACT clearly in front. They already have ODI cricket so CA are well under way to growing the game their. Id say then GC.
Geelong is part of the Melbourne footprint. I cant see CA wanting a 3rd team in the area anytime soon.
Id think Geelong would be like Illawarra or Newcastle, not on the CA radar as yet.

No way. Geelong has successfully hosted A league soccer, 22,000 people, afl of course, 30000 a week, has an international 20/20 coming soon. They are ready to go. They are making a big mistake if they don't come to Geelong. No one will enjoy night cricket in ACT in 10 degrees.

So will they get an ALeague side as well.?
Im just saying I think CA will go to new areas first & they have been more active in ACT than any other non 1st class area that I can see. I also think they'll progress slowly.

Don't think they'll get a league. Just host some Victory games.

Dont Victory get good crowds already? I mean its not like having 10 AFL clubs jammed into the area. Theirs only 2 Aleague teams in Melbourne.
Maybe Geelong would do better getting back into the NBL?
I think BBL expansion may be quite limited. I think their more likely to increase games than clubs anytime soon.
Anyway it'll be interesting to see how all those competitions handle expansion pressures.

As bb and a league both summer, can only do 1 at kp.

lol.......no.
The WACA is a horrible venue, if any new club was to play there you may as well board them up before they play a game. They'd lack identity and be up against the team offering a much better package across the river (and the new stadium is literally on the other side of the river from the WACA).

To be honest, a Fremantle team is about as good a chance to work as anything else. But they need a much better proposal. Even Subiaco Oval would be better than Fremantle Oval. One of the weaknesses of the BBL is the sole reliance on existing stadia, as they don't play enough games to warrant upgrades solely for BBL teams.

Not really - Fremantle is a suburb of Perth. I think the Council likes to think of themselves of a separate identity to Perth. It isn't

Unlike footy, there is no real cultural significance or success of Fremantle in cricket over and above any other suburb of Perth.

For a grassroots support - you'd probably have better luck with an Eastern suburbs team encompassing Midland, Guildford, Bayswater, the Hills and basing it out of Lilac Hill.

Personally though - if Perth got another team... name it Perth. There are two melbournes, two sydneys, why try and be overcreative and isolate support to a singular suburb.

I guess so. The cricket idiots here are talking about A league at Bellerive oval!

I think North Hobart oval will be the soccer target. Its a narrow ground with natural amphitheatre on one side. It could stuff it for footy though. Not that the AFL would give a toss.

Because everyone already follows the Scorchers. Why would anyone change if it's just Scorchers-lite? Its the reason Melbourne City has been a flop in the A-League. No-one cares about them because they don't have any point of difference to the Victory.

I would rather an ACT team over another franchise in an existing market (and that includes Geelong).

Canberra
Gold Coast
Geelong
Newcastle

would be the ratings. Newcastle would be second if they had a suitable stadium but they don;t

It shows the advantage Aussie rules areas have. The grounds suit cricket. That limits BBL. Newcastle, Wollongong are severely disadvantaged. ACT, Geelong, even Cairns & Launceston are more lively to get BBL games.

As mentioned in here it looks like they'll increase the season to 14 games that includes regional matches before they increase the number of teams.

This won't end well but it's a better option than adding more teams and diluting the talent pool further.

Maybe a second tier competition would be a more sustainable way to make money?
