"I don't think [the batter] was trying to get an advantage"

She's so far down the track she's not even in the frame when the stumps are broken.

ban it or make it legal

Either way there is a crease there to stay behind.

It's recently been "legalised" by the ICC. I don't know what that even means, as I'm pretty sure it's always been legal. Maybe "endorsed" would be a better description.

Yeah well the more it's done the less outrage there will be and the more it's done the less it will be done as batters learn to stay behind the line

no different to batting out of your crease to a spinner. take that chance you'll be stumped

Agreed, on all points.

It can't realistically be banned, otherwise you'd effectively be allowing the non-striker to back up as far as they like.
true lol

Just make the rule once the ball has left the hand you can't back up

I'm all for this these days. Like any cricketer I was taught it's a no-no, but really, why? Etiquette? pfft. It's entirely the non-striker's fault for taking liberties.

Just saw this for the first time and have to disagree. This is basically a form of cheating. How is this legal??

Well when the ball has left the hand, the bowler cannot exactly run out the non-striker, eh?

Perfectly fine with the dismissal - stay in the crease until the ball has left the hand, you won't get Mankaded. Simple.

Just stay in your crease, wouldn't be an issue
Meh, you’re taught as kids to back up, I think most of the time the batsmen aren’t seeking any advantage larger than you are encouraged to do as kids, just a bit absent minded, hence why a warning is fair to wake them up to it.

Just my take though.

If Mankadding becomes normalised, then kids will be taught NOT to back up. It's no big deal IMO. The game will adjust. If anything, it adds an extra dimension that we are not used to.

Because it's in the rules and always has been.

The real form of cheating is backing up too far at the non-striker's end.
Perhaps this is my softball/baseball background talking but it doesn't seem right that the non-striking batsman isn't free to leave the crease once the bowler has started their bowling action. Before that, fair game.

Well, they are free to leave. But there are consequences.

Why do you have to give a warning( especially when it’s never been written in the rules) do you warn the batsman next time he nicks it the wicketkeeper will catch the ball?? How about call him back when he is bowled and next time he misses the ball on the stumps he is out bowled…??

The batsman has all the advantages in the game. Stuff them if they want to cheat.

Yeah this, easiest way for mankadding to not be an issue is for bowlers to start doing it regularly. Batters won't leave the crease then and if they do it's on then. This once a year type charade we have currently is the worst of all scenarios.

Exactly, try to steal a base by all means but you risk being run out.

Jhye was withdrawn before today’s Marsh Cup match with a “minor hamstring complaint.” [emoji2357] The Vics ended on 274/9.

No SMarsh in the 50 over side which I think was expected (to give some younger players a go).

False equivalences.

Sport is full of seemingly illogical contradictions. Part of the spirit of cricket has been a warning before a Mankad. Mostly for minor infractions where the batsmen has only just left the crease.

I’m hardly saying you should warn a player who has sprinted halfway down haha.
