Watching Turner guide the team home was a bit Michelle Bevan'ish...🥰
What a player he was. Then huss. But Gilly generally set them up after that. I remember the day when Gill announced his retirement. The day before my wedding, after almost 15 years together. My best man staying in a unit near me yelled out "hey Jim, Gilly retired, Yeah heard that too Zam" just about ended cricket for both of us.

BBL expansion would be stupid. Other Clubs should be looking at WA premier cricket to pick off the next players
Exactly this.

Instead of trying to double up on the WA teams and divide the Scorchers' supporter base, the other teams should be studying how the Scorchers have built the franchise over the last 10 years and aim to emulate that.

I was at the WACA, when he got out first ball to Brett Lee. Know the feeling.
Reminds me of a visit to the WACA in 1980.

WA beat the Windies in 3 days of a 4 day match. So they played a one day match on the 4th day.
Viv Richards didn't play in the 4/3 day match but it was announced the day before that he'd play in the one dayer.
It was basically an exhibition, all care no responsibility match.
Big crowd turned up. The place was packed. Viv came in at first drop. Was run out without facing a ball.
I can't remember who ran him out but I'm pretty sure that given his time again he'd have deliberately missed. The crowd was ropable.

Remember something about that , though I was a bit young ( teens) Richards was amazing , but so full of himself. A gifted man , no doubt.

Obviously you cant take anything for granted in T20 but the Sixers should dispatch the Heat fairly easily next final, now that their internationals are gone.
It shows how silly it was to let the internationals play for some, but not all, of the finals. Renegades would probably win if Kuwaja, Renshaw and Laub weren't playing. Instead, they get bundled out and the Sixers probably hammer the heat on Thursday.

The same sixers that Smith has won 4 of their last 5 games for them ?

I'd be interested to see how many of the 10million fans they were going on about during the renegade v heat match the Scorchers home games contribute to. Feel like we have some of the biggest crowds consistently

All BBL 12 crowds

Forgetting finals for comparison purposes

Each of the 7 Scorchers home games were over 20,000 attendance

Of the other 49 games, there were a total of 9 games in excess of 20,000
  • 3 in Adelaide (including the biggest crowd of over 40k on New Year’s Eve)
  • 3 in Sydney (including both Sydney derbies
  • 2 in Melbourne (both Melbourne derbies)
  • 1 in Brisbane

The three biggest crowds were the NYE game in Adelaide, the Sydney derby at the SCG and the Melbourne derby at the MCG

The next 6 highest were at Optus, meaning 6 of the 10 highest attendances were there. That becomes 7 if yesterdays final gets included

The lowest crowd for the Scorchers of 21,042 was their first game of the season vs the Sixers on 17/12 which from memory was a 4.15 or 4.30 start - not a great time slot

Total of Scorchers 7 home games ~185k
Total of both Renegades and Stars 7 home games combined ~197k
Total of both Sixers and Thunder 7 home games combined ~189k
Only the Strikers with ~145k to their 7 games gets close

But yeah Perth doesn’t like cricket apparently. So far ahead of the other 7 sides it’s not funny

Went on the weekend, had premiership terrace tickets and despite the sun (and me leaving my hat in the car), was a great time. Even when things looked dicey atmosphere was great. Payne was so clutch. And Turner/Bangers likewise.

Got my tickets for this weekend, not as good spot but still excited. Priced very reasonably also. Guess now we just wait to see who replaces Morris. If Kelly is fit we might just go pace again and bowl Hardie also. Turner gives us the spin option if needed. Will depend on the wicket as can equally see us bringing Peter in.

The nicest bloke in that team was Garner, always signing autographs on the boundary, he sighed the small cricket bats they gave us.

thanks for that and as i suspected.

Perth is ignored on the bigger stage but we turn up when we are treated with a bit of respect and some sembelance of decent scheduling. Melb and Sydney only show up for marquee events.

WA pace bowlers and injuries

Surely Kelly comes in for Morris. Can actually hit the ball and Hatz is ineffective at Optus

It’s a shame Kelly hasn’t fired as much as he did in previous seasons. I suspect the short straight boundary is taking away his yorker
